☆A/N : This chapter contains light cursing, hospital themes, and mentions of car crashes. I edited this while kinda tired sorry if it's not that good, the pacings off, and/or there's obvious typos.☆

I paced around aimlessly, walking back and forth between the kitchen and dining room. bloodstains trailed across the carpet, leading from the living room into the hallway. I sighed, leaning against the mahogany table. There was such a fucking mess. So much blood. My eyes drifted to the cleaning supplies peeking out from the storage closet. Moving before I could think I went over to them, gripping one of the heavy bottles of bleach, the strong sodium hypochlorite smell wafting from the container from under the cap, I had to make this place liveable. The smell of copper was overwhelming, permeating the walls with its earthy undertones. It was a familiar smell I couldn't put my finger on, a smell that reminded me of months ago, when all this started.

O/Y/N.

I quickly sat the bottles down, trying to push my mind to somewhere better, somewhere not so focused on death or dying, to murder and carnage. Heartbreak... human heartbreak...

...Adam and Jonah...

I wonder how they're doing...

I hope they're okay.

The yellow stained walls around me definitely seen better days, lights glowing a dim gold, flickering and buzzing above. Pictures of the family that used to live here thrown in the trash, buried under anything I could find. I walked out of the dining room and into the living room, and right to the front door. The walls shifted between rooms, some more yellow and white, some covered in vintage wallpaper torn in a few places. Where a TV would've been now an empty black counter covered in dust, pressed against the wall, surrounded by shelves lined with all sorts of VHS tapes, most unmarked. I opened the door, the lock clicking behind me on my way out. I walked through the grass to the car, climbing in quietly, the smell of blood and cigarettes seeping into my clothes, I had to fix that.

The engine roared to life not long after, the wheel feeling unfamiliar in my hands as I drove down the street. I made a few turns, stopping at the red lights like everyone else before I managed to get there. To the hospital. It wasn't too far from the house, though I'm sure Adam and Jonah would say differently. I really hope they're okay.

I stepped out of the giant, stuffy car, facing the hospital. Three floors towered over me, gray curtains lining the tops of every window. I walked under the awning, approaching the door. People passed by, holding it open for me. I kept on, thanking them before going up to the front desk. Unsurprisingly, a familiar face looked up at me from her computer. After only a second I heard her sigh before giving a cold, rather forced smile,

"Y/N." She greeted,

"Yeah, hey." I gave a sheepish smile,

"I'm guessing you're here to ask about Adam and Jonah?" She looked back down at her computer.

"Mhm." I gave a small nod, eyes drifting off,

My only friends. The ones that meant the world to me.

The soft sounds of her typing filled the distance between us, hollow and empty. Thoughts flickered in and out, a broken lightbulb, memories of that night just as fresh as they'd always been, what did they know anyways? I'm not going to 'lose everything' just because I-

"Do you want to visit them?" She broke the silence,

"Wait, I can?" My eyes locked onto her, "I mean- yeah- if I can- I just-"

She gave a low chuckle, "That's what I thought..." I pressed myself against the counter, leaning in as she typed something in, documents popping up on the dimly lit screen, "Room 209, just go up the elevator and down the hallway on your left."

"Thank you- Thank you so much!" I excitedly pulled away, already trying to leave,

She gave a low chuckle in response, watching me dart off to the elevator. The ride up was quick, the box shifting and shuddering, sounds of metal grinding following me the whole way up. I left as quickly as I could, it sounded like it was going to fall. I turned left, walking down the hallway that seemed to stretch on forever. I passed by door after door, 201, 202, 203, 204, all in order.

9.

I froze, standing in front of the door, what if they didn't remember me? No. What if they knew too much? I grabbed the doorknob- no, no wait- not yet- the door swung open, soft sounds of the radio playing in the near distance, why was it so quiet? I took a few steps inside, sterile smells washing the blood tainted aroma off of my clothes. The tiles glew in the natural light. My eyes soon landed on two beds, Adam and Jonah, the two of them,

Bandages wrapped around their hands, IV drips stuck into their arms. Adams' eyes met my own, half of his face wrapped tightly in gauze, a strange look coming across his face. One of recognition, surprise, but... something else. Jonah noticed me, too, taking a few minutes to get what was going on.

"Hey," I waved, keeping my voice quiet,

"Y/N..?" Jonah's voice was raspy and broken,

"You're... actually here?" Adam looked even more surprised, why wouldn't I be?

Jonah seemed so happy, but Adam...

I couldn't tell,

Jonah's eyes lit up, before his expression dropped, looking over to Adam and whispering something I could barely make out,

"Are they... actually here?" He asked, "are you- are you sure that it's not just..."

"No bro, I- I see them too."

I took a few steps forward towards them, "yeah... I'm real-" Jonah's eyes lit up again, Adam seeming to calm down, were they on edge? Eventually I got close enough to give them both a tight hug, I don't want to let go again, "I was so worried-"

After a second I felt their arms wrap around me, and eventually each other. I never thought I'd ever get this close to them, let alone in such a vulnerable, caring way. I closed my eyes, soaking in the sugary sweet feelings that pounded in my chest, wrapping around my head like cotton, I didn't want this moment to end,

I eventually let go, looking at the two of them, eyes darting back and forth. Jonah kept a hand on my shoulder, not wanting to let go, probably scared to. Adam leaned back in his bed,

"Honestly, I didn't think we'd ever see you again," Adam piped up,

"What... Do you mean?"

"We- We thought you were dead, man-" Jonah stared me in the eyes, "Every time we asked the doctors didn't have any info on you -"

"Oh, yeah... that..." I looked away, "I didn't think I needed any help. I was more worried about you two dummies to even-"

"Says the person who tried to fight off a literal alternate and survived a car crash." Adam cut me off.

"At least I won, emo boy." I giggled.

Adam glared at me, while Jonah giggled, jokingly repeating 'emo boy' under his voice. Adam huffed,

"It's not funny."

"Am I wrong though?" I asked,

Jonah kept playfully poking fun at Adam for the next few minutes, much to his chagrin. After our laughter died down, I felt sincerity fill up my chest,

"I'm just glad you guys are okay-"

"Yeah-"

"Let's agree never to do that again-" Jonah interjected,

Agreed.

I don't know how long I sat there with the two of them after that, chatting, catching up. Making jokes and poking fun at each other. Maybe it didn't matter how long I was there, maybe what mattered was that everything was finally okay, they were finally safe.

Right?
