The moon hung low in the inky black sky, distant fog clogging the air. Wind blew through the trees, rattling their needles and leaves. The chimes on the side of the house, hanging on the lower corner of the roof, clattered and jingled almost as though they were singing. My gaze held on the window, watching cars pass by, their headlights illuminating the ground in their wake, and the gentle sway of the plants in the breeze. I looked away from the window, glassy shine reflecting my face as I pulled back, turning towards Adam and Jonah, both waiting there, whispering quietly to each other.I gently grabbed the bandages on Adam's leg and Jonah's arm, unwrapping them. Their wounds, healed enough, though were still dotted with red peeking through black stitches.

I tossed the old bandages aside, before grabbing the small dish sitting on the ottoman beside me, its white porcelain almost glowing in the light. I pulled out a cotton ball from the cloudy, soapy water in the dish, letting it drain slightly before going to work. I started to clean the wounds as best I could, Adam's first, then, moving on to Jonah.

Jonah winced looking at his wounds, glancing away before giving an awkward smile, "Y'Know, I never thought this would happen to us."

"What? Y/N 'torturing' us after we got hurt from one of your dumbass ideas?" Adam sounded like he was joking.

I pulled the cotton away from Joanh's arm, "No- No, I mean- I never thought we'd ever be taken care of, because, y'know-"

"What?... Because you don't have any real friends?" Adam said, a bit quieter than before.

Jonah laughed, "I have you."

"...right..." Adam looked away, almost annoyed.

I let out a small chuckle, putting the cotton ball back in the bowl and setting it aside before standing up.

I don't think Adam meant that.

At least, I really hope he didn't.

My eyes darted back at the two, Adam more focused on me, while Jonah stared elsewhere. I turned to see what he was looking at, being met with the darkened window behind me. I turned my head to look back at him, his brown eyes widening, before looking up to meet my own. Adam looked away, getting re-lost in his own head, as Jonah looked down at the bandage on his arm, turning it, taking it in as best he could, his other hand gently touching it. He looked back at me again, his voice playful, joking,

"Are you gonna tell me you were a nurse or something, too? This shit's like- good quality-"

"Nah, just a jack of all trades, remember?"

"What can't you do?"

I let my legs give out, falling backwards on the couch behind me and landing softly, "I dunno" I paused, a smile coming onto my face, "Wanna find out?"

"Yeah!"

Jonah was about to say something, only to be cut off by Adam, holding a hand out in front of his face to block him, "Can you shapeshift into me and punch Jonah in the face?"

"Dude what??" Jonah scooted to look over his hand, laughing a bit

"I could punch you, Adam."

"I dare you to do it." Jonah playfully shouted from behind Adam, "Do it, Do it, Do it!"

I stood up, laughing and giggling along with Jonah. To my surprise, a small smile sat on Adam's face for a few seconds before going back to being neutral. The two quietly, and playfully argued, leaving me to my own devices, giving me enough time to slip away. Despite walking away, towards the stairs with a pleasant feeling in my brain, I couldn't help but notice the strange, new feeling in my chest.
