Heather tossed and turned in her bed. Not able to sleep, she finally got up. The icy floor touched her bare feet, sending shivers down her spine.
She wore some decent clothes incase she came across someone, as unlikely it sounded, she knew the four boys she had been trying to avoid for 5 years would be there, it was only 11:45 pm afterall.
She grabbed her sketch book and some watercolor and headed out, she looked towards the common room, relieved that no one was down there.
She went out the common room and after a few minutes she reached the astronomy tower. She leaned against the railing looking at the stars, after some time she took a small stool lying in the corner and opened her sketchbook.
It held alot of drawings and paintings she admired. Finding a empty page, she started sketching. When she was half way through painting a hand was placed on her shoulder, she jumped, almost throwing off her book.
She turned around to see the one and only, Sirius Black.
"Hi." He said, which surprised Heather, she expected him to flirt but said nothing about it.
"Hey Sirius."
She glanced up at him and smiled, when she looked carefully she saw that he was holding a cigarette, which made his hand warm and made it smell smokey.
"You come here every night, don't you Heather?"
"Yea, how did you know?"
"I come every night too, I just wait for you to leave because I don't want a girl flirting with me."
"I am not one of those."
Their conversation didn't involve any loud voices or any attempts at flirting.
It only involved soft voices and comfort.
"You know Foxy, you are really unlike your sister."
"Foxy?"
"My new nickname for you."
"I like it Black."
"Why weren't you sitting with your sister on the train?"
"Well, no one knows how the real Lily is, to your best friend and the rest of the world she is kind, beautiful, gets top grades and blah, blah, blah. When in reality she is mean, rude, controlling bully. It isn't even her who gets the top grades, it's always me but I don't say anything because the fates are worse than hell if you upset her, she will find a way to hurt you, physically or mentally. It doesn't matter and my older sister isn't any different." By the time she finished Sirius realised that she was crying. He carefully hugged her, in case she didn't feel comfortable being hugged.
"What about your parents?"
"They don't care, even before they found out we were witches they loved her. They gave her everything, they made me live in the attic. Petunia gets treated much better than me."
He hugged her tighter as she cried into his shoulder.
"It's okay Heather, you're safe as long as you're at hogwarts. And no one cares about it anyways. Do you like the attic?"
"I like it, I really like it. I prefer small spaces." Her crying had stopped and she was no longer hugging Sirius.
"I'm sorry Heather, I shouldn't have brought it up."
"It's okay, it felt good to talk to someone about it. Hows life with the Potters?"
"How did you know?"
"I heard James talking about it."
"It's nice, they're more like my family than my family itself. My parents were abusive and my brother is a horrible person."
"I'm so sorry Sirius." She said hugging him.
It felt weird, there was this tingly feeling in his stomach which he had never experienced before, he felt comfortable warmth being in her warmth. No one had ever hugged him due to his life or in order to give comfort.
As they broke apart Sirius took his cigarette and started smoking. Heather pulled it out of his hand and stubbed it against the railing.
"What was that for Foxy?"
"I'm sure those will kill you faster Black."
"Back to last name basis are we Evans?"
"I guess not."
"When James first saw you with Lily, he decided that you were going to be the wingwoman. But again he never spoke to you or saw you."
"I know, I heard y'all talking."
"You are one hell of an eavesdropper Foxy."
"We should go it's 1am already."
They entered the common room laughing and chuckling not noticing the 2 boys on the couch.
Heather left to go to her dorm and when he saw James and Remus he jumped.
"We have never seen him laugh so heartily with any girl before James, face it. I win."
"Yup, you win Lupin."
