Hermione was looking out her window watching the rain pour down the stained glass windows of her Gryffindor dorm. She always enjoyed watching the small rain pebbles fall off the car while her parents drove in their suburban neighborhood. Not knowing where she belonged in Hogwarts she spent a lot of time looking out the windows and daydreaming. Why was she put into Gryffindor when she knew she wasn't brave. Sure, she was smart but she wasn't brave like Harry. Often, Hermione would sit in this very spot and ponder. Would she have done better in Ravenclaw or even Slytherin? Harry and Ron didn't understand why Hermione felt this way and she often felt alone. "Are you listening to me?" She looked up to see Ginny staring at her.
"What did you say?" Hermione asked as Ginny started to pace back and forth.
"Should I even try with Dean anymore?" Ginny started to twirl her thumbs, a nervous habit she had picked up.
"Well, speaking as a completely third-party objective, I think you should break up with him," she rolled her eyes while glancing back to the window.
"How do you break up with someone?" Ginny started to pace again.
"Why are you asking me?" Hermione retorted. Did Ginny not know she hadn't broken up with anyone? "What about Viktor? How did you break up with him?"
"It was mutual," Hermione lied. She stood up from her window seat and patted down her skirt. "We thought it would be best if we stopped seeing each other since Durmstrang is far from Hogwarts."
"But he was so gorgeous," Ginny smiled. Hermione rolled her eyes and grabbed a book from under her pillow. "Where are you going? It is almost curfew."
"Out," Hermione said, "don't wait up for me." She tucked her sketchbook into her bag and exited the Gryffindor girls' dorm and out of the common room. Ginny was right it was almost curfew but she couldn't deal with Ginny complaining about Dean Thomas anymore. She hated the fact that they fought so much that Ginny would be in tears after every time they are together.
Making her way down the corridors she made her way out to the courtyard. Sitting under the tree Draco Malfoy got turned into a ferret. It had stopped raining and Hermione dried a spot so she could sit under the tree. It was quiet which she didn't get much when students were out and about. Pulling out her book she opened to the next page of the sketchbook. She grabbed her quill and started to sketch. Many people didn't know that she sketched since she hid it from people. Not wanting people to see it she would hide it in different places throughout the dorm. If anyone had seen what she had drawn she would be mortified.
Tonight she decided to draw a small girl underneath the tree, crying. Hermione knew she had been upset for the past couple of days and wondered if anyone had taken notice. She felt like this girl under the tree. After she was done she put her quill away and looked at the drawing. It wasn't her best drawing, but it worked with what she had. She missed having an assortment of pens and pencils to draw with. Of course that was in the muggle world. She sighed, as she wrote her initials in the corner.
"Miss Granger," she sat there like a mannequin. "Miss Granger!" his dark velvety voice charged with venom spat again. Biting her lip and not knowing what to say she stood up, fast. Her breathing started to pick up, she hadn't been in trouble like this. Her professor's dark voice moved closer and put a thumb underneath her chin. Lifting her chin her eyes met with his dark brooding eyes. They were dark orbs that could stare into your soul. "Answer me when I call you, Miss Granger," the Professor spat. She could smell his hot minty breath on her face.
"Look at me," his voice still filled with venom. Hermione eyes darted from his eyes to his lips. "What are you doing out here past curfew? Do you know how dangerous it is to be out here? 50 points from Gryffindor and you will be serving detention with me tomorrow since you decided to be out two hours after curfew."
