June: Rondel #1 - "Disappearing Days"

9 2 2

As footprints quickly fade into sand,

Memories of them blow away

Nothing valued always stays,

Diamond-studded rings only temporarily grand.

Life disappears faster than we can understand,

Treasured are the moments every day

As footprints quickly fade into sand,

Memories of them blow away.

So long as on stable ground we stand,

Meaningful will be each word we say

Cherish the stars, though days will grow grey,

Push past blistering winds and take my hand,

As footprints quickly fade into sand.

This is my first Rondel ever! Rondels have a specific structure: the first stanza has rhyme scheme of ABba, the second is abAB, and the third is abbaA. The capitalized letters are repetitions of the first two lines. In my poem, it was "as footprints quickly fade into sand" and "memories of them blow away". It's a fun poetic form to write in.
