"What's the secret to a long life?" People ask me. Stay away from men
—————It was a couple weeks later. I yawn as I sit in home room. We never did anything, just waiting for our morning announcements. The PA crackles and hurts our ears. "Sorry!" You could hear the slightly muffled voice of the student. We listened all the way through until we got to the good stuff. "The annual district formal is coming up in a few days so please get ready for that as well!"
The annual district formal. The only schools in our district was Kings Court Academy and our school, Mockingjay High. Every year everyone from our school would dread this formal. Kings Court would always show us up, through looks, attire, venue. And every year our school would try pull some prank but find some way to fuck it up. I sigh and lean back in my seat, the front legs hovering off the ground.
I get a few texts from a group chat. "Besties." It was a group of Elv, Dorian, Nick and I.
"Ew did u hear. The formal" Elva says, with a frowning emoji at the end.
"I know" Dorian replies using the same emoji.
"Oh come on guys, what if it's fun this year" Nick replies quickly.
I chuckle and text back, "u say that every year and end up fkn some KCA girl."
Everyone but Nick replies laughing.
"Wtv. We're still up for dinner tonight?" He changes the topic. We all like his message as I put away my phone.———————
I text Oliver on my phone while I wait for everyone in my car. He hadn't responded majority of the day and I was getting worried. I get interrupted by a loud slam on my window. I look out and see Nick making a dramatic face on my window, his hands squeaking down the sides. I unlock the car and signal for him to get in. "Ew dude you left a smudge on my window" I complain. He shrugs and goes on his phone. "Where's Dorian and Elv?" As if it was magic they showed up as soon as I said it. Dorian opened the door and poked his head in while Elva sat in the back with Nick.
"Hey Len, Doll. Want me to drive today?" I smile and nod my head. "Yeah that would be nice, thanks Dori." I get out of my car and move to shotgun. He sits in my seat and adjusts the seat to his liking. Before I could say anything he holds his hand up. "Relax I'll change it when you get it back" he smiles coyly and drives off.
I look in the back and see Elva and Nick hovering over his phone watching videos, they tuned everything out. I smile and Dorian notices. "You know how pretty your smile is right?" He stops at a light, one hand on the wheel. "Ew no i hate my smile lines" I say covering my mouth. "Oh come on it's gorgeous" he holds my hand in his to keep it down. My stomach was doing somersaults as his fingers rubbed my thumb. "You know Nick is going to get pissed" I mumble quietly. "And yet you haven't moved your hand" he says with a sly smirk, his face towards the road.
—————
We arrive at dinner and Elva and Nick were sitting by each other and Dorian and I were facing them. We were sitting in our usual booth in the back of the diner. Elv and Nick were talking non stop about anything and everything they could think of. I just laughed as they went along.
Dorians hand had found it's way to my thigh while we waited for our meals. I jolt in my seat a little making him snicker at me. He rubbed my thigh that caused a little twinge between my legs. As soon as Nick gets up to go to the restroom, Elva looks over and smirks. "Dorian wanna share with the class what's so interesting about Lena's leg" she chuckles. "It's just a good resting place for my hand" he retorts. I feel my face flush red as he looks at me, his gaze upon mine.
Nick gets back as soon as the food arrived. "What a coincidence" I think. Finally Dorian let's go to eat. My face was still flushed red as I looked down to eat. I cross my legs, the slight feeling still between it. Dorian noticed an nudges my hand a little. He laughs lightly.
My attention is pulled from Dorian by the loud voices of people walking into the diner, they were seated right next to us. "Len!? Heyyyy" I look over and see Oliver. His blonde hair was ruffled in front of his face, his clothes were all messy and he reeked of beer. He tries to hug me, "god now I see why you weren't answering your phone" I say trying to hold my breath. "I didn't even drink that much" he mumbles as he kisses my forehead.
Nick rolls his eyes, "hey don't get handsy with her, you came here with your friends just hang out with them." For once I agreed with Nick, I did not want to have to deal with Oliver tonight. But at the same time I felt bad. Although we weren't that close, Oliver didn't seem like he would get drunk like this. He lays his head on my shoulder. "Just- just let me lay here for a little" he says in a low, raspy voice. I could feel his warm, staggered, breathing on my shoulder.
