Riley's POV
—
"She's..gone?" I won't believe this. Not for a second.
"I'm sorry, ma'am...we tried everything we could. The impact was too hard, she was killed immediately," the doctor says, avoiding eye contact with me.
"BULLCRAP. SHE'S MY FREAKING BESTFRIEND! DO SOMETHIN ELSE!" These doctors go to school for years, they should know how to save her.
"There's noth-" I push the doctor up against the, grabbing the collar of his shirt.
"Do. Somethin. Else." Those are the only words I can get out before two people pull me back and drag me back into the waiting room, right where I was as soon as I got the call that Audrey's car flipped off the bridge.
I should've driven her to the airport. She doesn't think straight when she's stressed. She never does. I should've known better. I could've saved her life.
I need to go to the airport and tell Chandler. This is going to kill him inside, knowing how close he was to Aud and then it happened to her...
I pick up my phone to call him and tell him I'm on my way before I leave the waiting room. The phone rings a few times before someone picks up. It's obviously not Chandler.
"Can I speak to Chandler Thompson please?" I ask, remembering to use my manners. Audrey always got mad when I didn't say please and thank you. She was that kind of girl.
"I'm sorry, may I ask who you are?" The deep, mysterious and quite creepy to say the least voice asks me.
"Riley. I'm Chandlers girlfriends bestfriend. Can I please just talk to him?" I'm starting to get annoyed with whoever it is I'm talking to.
"I'm sorry to inform you, but Chandler is dead. The flight he was on crashed, all of the passengers were killed."
I drop the phone. What kind of a sick game is this?
I laugh as I look around.
"Okay Aud, games over. You and Chandler can come out now. I know it's all a joke," I can't believe I fell for this.
The people in the waiting room just stare at me. Even the receptionist looks at me like I'm a maniac.
"Guys, it's not funny anymore," My lips start to tremble.
"Audrey?" I whisper as I fall to my knees.
Don't cry. You're stronger than this.
"PLEASE, COME BACK!" I collapse in tears on the chair closest to me.

"When is Audrey's mom comin?" I ask the doctor. I was sitting down with a few of the doctors, giving them some of Audrey's information.
"One of the nurses just went to go get a hold of her. We called you first because you were the last person here with Audrey. Was Audrey Gates the same girl I treated earlier, when she passed out?"
"Yeah, if saying there's nothin wrong with her after lookin at her for a few seconds and then clearin her to leave is called 'treatin' now a days," I roll my eyes as I hear a loud bang, followed by panting and screaming.
"MY BABY! WHERE'S MY BABY?" Audrey's mom shouts.
"Ma'am, I'm going to need you to-," the doctor starts.
"WHERE IS MY DAUGHTER?" I've never seen Ms. Gates look like this before. She was always happy and cheerful. Now she looked exhausted, pale, and like she could pass out at any second.
