Dedicated to My forever friend — Ida _______________________________
To Ida — ☀️🍅☎️ 🎲 🍇🎼🥶🪵⛸🚘🏞⏰
I know all of these emojis will call on memories through the years of friendship. You were always my best friend but are just as much my sister. While a lot of the emojis represent moments of laughter, pranks, and goofing around—the strongest thing connected to them is the endless love they hold.
We have been through it all, family tragedies on both sides, vacations, uncountable childhood memories, and a building adult life that sometimes becomes too much. We're always a phone call away but always live far away from each other. Still, when we need each other, we run to the other.
I guess we were destined to become close. I mean, I wouldn't even be born if it weren't for you! Our moms were best friends before us. They lived just as far away from each other as we do.
As you know, my sisters are some years older than me, and my parents were in doubt about having another child. But, there your mom was, surprising them when they visited. Nearly full term! And I guess that shock, seeing your mom outside, hanging up clothes on a clothesline, was enough to make that decision. A year later, two best friends were on the horizon!
You're the strongest person I know. The kindest. And a role model. You have pushed me to do the scariest things I could think of as a kid. Like, jump from a cliff! And that courage has been brought into my adult life, guiding me.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all our years of friendship. This chapter is dedicated to you for soon-to-be obvious reasons 😂

Elvis POV
The 16th of July, 1957
«Are we okay?» The morning had washed ashore too quickly for the night we had at Nick's. Too tired for my own good, I got up anyway, worried I had screwed things up further with Sal, even if it looked like she forgave me once again.
Her 'What's wrong with you?' echoed in my mind.
Nudging her door, revealing her bedroom and the daylight that hit the carpeted floor in arrows—reaching for her, she had just about opened her eyes to raise her voice to let me in as I knocked. She mumbled, and I couldn't understand a word she said. Sound quietness came with the door shutting behind me as my legs took on the walkover to her bedside—finding her duvet grazed my bare forearm as I settled down. Right at the edge while on edge myself.
