"So.." I finally decided to break the awkward silence. Brian looked away and avoided eye contact with Jackson while Aaliyah kept the same devious smile on her face.
Jackson's eyes were flicking back and forth between Aaliyah and Brian as if he was trying to make sense of it all. I slowly closed my mouth and retreated from trying to break the thick tension. Maybe god heard my prayers for someone to finally say something because a couple minutes later, even though it felt like 2 hours, Brent swung his arm around Jackson's shoulders and the two of them began chatting away.
"J! Haven't seen you in a grip bruh." Brent shifted his weight as he leaned on Jackson.
Jackson blinked a few times before responding. "Yeah my bad, I kinda went MIA this summer. You still making music?"
Brent took a swig from the red cup he was holding, "You know it." he started to look around and thank god, read the room. "But lemme holla at you real quick." His welcoming and kind demeanor seemed to tense up as he looked at Aaliyah and Brian, I felt like his eyes skipped completely over me. Jackson nodded and they both turned to walk outside the house.
The two of them made their way to the hallway I stared at Jackson's back and id assume he felt my eyes burning holes into his shirt because he turned to me and gave me a look that said 'I'll be right back.'
I turned my attention back to Aaliyah and Brian and waited for an explanation. Brian finally looked at me and cleared his throat, but still didn't speak. Aaliyah giggled and began talking first.
"Brian this is Tiana, Tiana this is Brian, my man obviously." I smiled. "Your friend over there mad because I left him for Brian." she took a step closer to Brian as if she was protecting him from me. As if I was a vulture looking for food.
"Hey Brian and not too much on him girl." Brian waved and finally seemed to ease up while I leaned on the counter behind me.
"Wassup Ti." he simply said while he tied his arms around Aaliyah's waist.
I ain't know we were on nickname basis when he was about to have a panic attack seeing Jackson not even 5 minutes ago. I nodded my head, but I couldn't shake the feeling something was up between the 3 of them.
Aaliyah seemed preoccupied with Brian and the PDA started to gross me out so I scrolled on my phone for awhile. I had opened my calculator app 4 maybe 5 times before I got a text from Jackson. Finally.
'Come upstairs, last room down the hall.' Is all he said. Now I know what you're thinking. White boy texting a black girl to come upstairs at another random white persons house. Murder just waiting to happen but hear me out. I'd do anything to get away from the two face suckers I've been stuck with for the past 15 minutes.
I told Aaliyah I'd be right back and she didn't even look my way. She brushed her hand away as if she was dismissing me and I just let her be. I had to push past people dancing, drinking, and even had to step over a few people who were greened out and just star gazing at the ceiling.
The music was so loud I couldn't hear the wooden stairs creaking under me, but I could feel it. My heart was beating outside of my chest before I even got up the stairs. What did he want?
I got up the stairs after dodging the same things that were downstairs but this time on the stairs instead of the floor. In the long hallway that led me to where Jackson was there were people cuddled up on the floor or standing in corners talking and some were even kissing. I rolled my eyes and made my way to the last room.
