~Loki's POV~

I hit the ground. Hard.

Thor stood over me, his laughing smile morphing into one of shock before he dropped to his knees, examining the shoulder I landed on. "Brother, are you-?"

I shoved him. He was only checking I wasn't injured as he knew our Mother would be angry if I was hurt. He didn't really mind if I scraped my arm or not.

He frowned, but gave up, and ran back to Fandral, who was preparing to chase him to the woods and back.

I sighed and rolled onto my back, staring into the sky. Soon it would be dark, and Mother would be wrapping me in her arms, and telling me stories until I fell asleep.

Maybe I was too old for stories. Especially the ones she told of hero princes and warrior princesses, battling enemies and falling in love. Thor decided he was too old, and teased me about it relentlessly.

I didn't care.

He knew to stop as soon as we entered our school rooms. The tutors were strict and I would fight back if he told his friends.

A cloud slowly brushed across the sky, followed by another.

And then a blonde head covered the view, bright eyes and a curious smile peering down at me.

I blinked.

"Are you okay?"

The girl stepped back, waiting for me to answer. "I'm fine."

"I saw that horrid boy push you over, but he ran away." I followed her angry gaze in the direction Thor had run.

I pushed to my feet, "horrid?"

"Yes," she turned back to me, "only horrid people push others."

"Oh."

She was wearing a white dress, muddied in places, and had a flower tucked into the laces of her thick boots. The sleeves were a little long, but they'd been rolled carefully to sit above her wrists. She tilted her head to the side, eyes narrowing, "Who are you?"

"Loki Odinson."

"Are you?" She stepped back, her eyes looking down at my clothes, "I haven't seen you before."

"I haven't seen you." I thought I would remember if I had. She seemed to dislike Thor, and that was enough for me to remember a face. "Who are-?"

She was smiling, when someone shouted from the path, "Sigyn, come on, we have to go!"

She glanced over her shoulder, hair swirling around her face before she turned back, "it was nice to meet you."

She was running before I could answer, feet thudding as she ran to the woman waiting for her. They crouched, wiping a streak of mud from her arm before they held hands and walked away.

"Come on Thor, it would be funny."

"No it wouldn't." He glared over his shoulder, "it was bad enough when you tricked him last time."

I pulled a face. We had grown over the years, but with his recent growth spurt, Thor was now easily a head taller than me, his voice beginning to deepen. He looked the part of a young prince, even if he did still run crying to his Mother when I hid toy snakes in his bed.

"You're no fun."

"You're acting childish."

I snorted, and shoved him down the last step, leading to the market square, "sorry, I didn't realise you were a grown man."
