Looking at Atlas Montana, I know I only have one choice: to not get close to him no matter what. With a boy as fine as he is I know that there's only one thing that can happen: disaster.

"I'm guessing you want me to go away," he says, breaking that rant I just had inside my head.

"What gave you that idea?" I ask and roll my eyes, placing them back onto the soil.

"I'm not going to go away Layla, listen you're so beautiful-" I cut him off and glare at him, "Go away" I scowl, and he finally takes the hint and stands up. When he's gone, I feel tears swell up in my eyes, I know I was harsh, but I cant deal with the heartbreak that comes from letting people get close to me. I hear the outside bell ring, which is a symbol that dinner is ready and all of us kids need to go to the dining hall.

The dining hall is the largest part of the orphanage, it kind of has to be since it contains a kitchen and places for 110 kids to sit. I pay attention to each kid that arrives, that's how I know the number. I haven't talked to anyone except for the headmistress, and well, now Atlas. Everything is going as expected, I'm sitting by myself, while everyone else who actually has a social battery has fun talking and laughing with each other. I look across the table, and I see Atlas, his dark brown eyes are staring through my soul. I feel my face turn red again. Everyone in the dining hall goes silent. I think I had one of those moments where I could hear a pin drop. No ones talking anymore, and the TV's blaring red, and blinking BREAKING NEWS: ASTRONAUTS HAVE FINALLY CONTENDED THAT THE NEW PLANET, WHICH STILL DOESN'T HAVE A NAME, IS SUITABLE FOR HUMANS TO INHABIT. THE GOVERNMENT WILL SELECT 12 CAPABLE, FIT HUMANS RANDOMLY TO GO THROUGH A SERIES OF TESTS. THE HUMANS THAT ARE PICKED WILL HAVE TO SURVIVE HARSH, RAPID-CHANGING ENVIRONMENTS THAT IMATATE THOSE OF THE BEAUTIFUL PLANET NOW DEEMED SAFE FOR LIFE. THIS PLANET, ACCORDING TO SCIENTISTS, WILL BE THE MOST DANGEROUS, YET ASTOUNDING ENVIRONMENT ANYONE HAS EVER LAYED EYED ON.

I can't believe what I'm hearing. The astronauts finally found another planet that us humans can live on, and supposedly, from the other reports I've seen on the TV every once in a while, this planet is so different than earth. The oceans are purple, and the seasons change so quickly there, one day it could be summer, and one day it can be winter. You never know what you get. Oh, and the plants, they... The announcer starts speaking again. HERE ARE THE RULES. YOU WILL BE CHOSEN RANDOMLY, AS I'VE STATED BEFORE, AND YOU WILL BE ASSIGNED TWO PEOPLE TO HELP YOU SURVIVE THE SIMULATION. YOU WILL BE EXPERIENCING WEATHER MUCH LIKE WHAT YOU WOULD SEE ON THE PLANET, AND THERE ALSO WILL BE CLUES SCATTERED AROUND AND HIDDEN TO HELP YOU GET AN ADVANTAGE AGAINST THE OTHER TEAMS YOU ARE COMPETING WITH. THERE WILL BE 7 GROUPS OF 3, BUT THE SIMULATION STOPS WHEN THERE IS ONLY ONE GROUP LEFT. THE GROUP WHO WINS WILL GET TO BE THE FIRST 3 PEOPLE TO LIVE ON THE PLANET FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES. THOSE WHO DIE WILL EXIT THE SIMULATION AND RETURN BACK TO THE COMFORT OF THEIR HOMES, NO PRIZE GIVEN. GOOD LUCK, AND REMEMBER, WE ARE DOING THIS FOR THE BETTERING OF HUMANITY. IF NO ONE VOLUNTEERS FOR THE EXPERIMENT, WE WILL PICK WHO PARTICIPATES. The newscast abruptly turns off.
