Me and Layla walk through the forest trying to find anything that could possibly help us build a fire. According to Miles, we still need all of the basic survival items we would need on earth to be able to live here. I look at Layla, who is digging in thorn bushes, and picking up sticks and different forms of moss. She doesn't talk much as she forages, and she seems uneasy about something, almost nervous in a way. "What's wrong Layla?" I ask, in a gentle voice, so she can hear the concern I have for her. She's been almost silent ever since the incident at the river. "You, Atlas, you almost drowned at the river. I thought I was losing you, I couldn't handle that..", a single tear flows down her cheek, and I want to cry seeing her cry at the thought of losing me. I raise my hand and wipe the tear off of her skin. "I can't lose you Atlas," she says softly, as she looks up at me with her emerald, green eyes, shining from the tears. Even when she cries, she looks so perfect, I'm convinced that there's no other human as close to being perfect than her. "You're not going to lose me Layla, I promise," I assure her, as she quickly wipes away her tears and looks embarrassed at the fact she just cried in front of me. It's dark now, and we are still searching for firewood, I get anxious at the thought of us possibly not having a fire all night. It's cold outside, and quiet. There's no signs of any other participants yet, which means no change of getting sabotaged as of now. Everything is going well, except for the part of us having no fire, and I don't really have anything to complain about. "Atlas," Layla whispers, trembling, as she carefully drops the wood she's holding and puts both of her arms in the air, like she's surrendering from something. "What?" I ask, genuinely confused about what she could be scared about. I look around, trying to find a sign of danger, and just my luck, right after I promised Layla she wouldn't lose me, there happens to be a 10 foot grizzly bear walking right towards me. I freeze, I haven't had time to prepare for these kinds of situations, and I've never exactly been attacked by a bear before. I don't know if I'm supposed to yell, run, or try to find something to kill it. Unfortunately, I do neither, I think my body doesn't know how to react to this situation, because it just completely freezes. And even though I know I can't actually get hurt, I see my life flash before my eyes. The bear is walking closer, it's breathing heavily, but it doesn't seem angry for some reason. I turn around and look at Layla, who's crying again and motioning silently for me to come closer to her. I mouth to her, itll be okay, before I slowly turn around again. The bear is right in my face, I hear and smell its breath, and I close my eyes, bracing for whatever's going to happen. The bear stops, looks at me in the eyes, and walks away, completely calm. I'm amazed, and then I remember Atlas telling me about the wolf he used to pet back when he was still in the training period. Animals here are friendly, and maybe certain animals are drawn to certain people. The wolf was Atlas's, and maybe that bear is mine.
