A few months later
Tommie's POV:
Tomorrow is Christmas! And soon it'll be the last day with my family."Who wants to make cookies with me?" I shouted.
"Me!" "Me!" I heard.
I smiled and finally put the last ingredient on the table. I had been putting in 5 extra hours every day at my job to make sure they would have enough money to last them until Oliver got a job. Except I wanted him to go to the university instead.
I worked at a dress shop, and it was actually a whole lot more fun than I thought it would be.
"How about we have a cookie-making contest?" Suggested Cora.
I looked at her cute little face. "That sounds like a great idea." I replied.
"I want Tommie on my team!" Cried out Nevaeh.
"I called dibs already," said Ryan.
"Hey, when was that?" Replied Ria.
"Yesterday."
"You didn't even know we were making cookies until now, Ryan!"
"Since it was my idea, Tommie should be on my team." Added Cora.
I laughed. "I can't be on your team, guys. It wouldn't be fair.
"If Oliver makes cookies with us, then we could have three people on each team." Said Cora.
"That's pretty smart. Do you think he'll agree?"
We all looked at each other for a second.
"Oliver! Come on! We're having a cookie-making contest!" Shouted all of us in unison.
"What's the prize?" He shouted back.
I thought for a moment. "The winning team gets to go to the trading center with me and buy whatever snacks they want."
"Deal!"
I took out our picker wheel and wrote all our names down. The first name chosen was Ria. Then Cora, Ryan, Me, Oliver, and Nevaeh.
"We've got our teams now." I said this while separating all the ingredients in half.
"No way! I have to have the babies on my team!" Mumbled Oliver.
"Hey!" Replied the twins.
"That's mean.""We're starting in 3... 2... 1." I put my fingers down with each number.
"Go!"
Okay, team, what kind of cookies are we making?" I asked
"We should make sandwich cookies. With frosting in the middle." Whispered Cora.
"Good idea."
Together, we mixed the butter, sugar, and vanilla beans into a bowl. Then I let Nevaeh carefully add an egg.
We then separated it into three and each kneaded some dough.
"Why won't it mix?" Shouted Ria from across the kitchen.
"Heat the butter first." I replied while sighing deeply.
"I'm going to shape the vanilla cookies, and you guys can make the filling and the icing." I said while carefully putting the dough in the fridge so it can chill, before I prep the oven.
I took out the basic Christmas-themed cookie cutters. The gingerbread man, the Christmas tree, and Santa Claus. All of that stuff.
Then I started cutting through the dough. "Ria and Ryan! Are you guys done yet? I'm putting the cookies in the oven now!"
