[ One Week Later ]

The smell of fall air wafting through my slightly ajar window woke me up. Peeking rays of sunlight danced on my skin as I got up. I could hear the clatter of pans and pots downstairs, signifying that grandma was downstairs cooking breakfast. Frowning, I got dressed. She shouldn't be busying herself with work. Grandpa needed help with his state of condition, but who could blame her? He was at the hospital, his indisposition intensifying.

Work was a distraction from the pain...

I bounded down the stairs and sat down at the table. As if on cue, a quantity of food was piled on my platter. Ravenous, I started consuming the food quite swiftly. Grandma left the kitchen as soon as she was finished making the food for me, so without a word I got up and left the house.

The deafening sound of bellows gliding through the room made it hard to work. With my absorption diminishing, it was all gone when someone pulled the paper out from under my eyes.

"What the hell? Give it back!" I yelled infuriated.

I snapped my head in the route my worksheet went, and saw a pair of blonde hair look off my paper. It was the same people I had encountered at the library. The girl who grabbed my paper was Esperanza McAlister, she considered herself the 'popular' one at the school, followed by many others. I tried extracting it from her hands, but she evaded my move. Once I tried again, she just looked at me and smirked,

"Come on Autumn. You still owe us for not handing in your homework."

I was tired of this. Being used to them as a answer sheet. Each second my anger expanded, I did something I never knew I had in me. I clasped a cluster of her hair and yanked it forward, sending her head against my desk. Her forehead and the table collided. She shrieked, making people look at us in interest, most likely hoping for a cat fight, but I wasn't like that. She looked up at me, the loathing in her eyes visible,

"You little-"

she was cut off my the classroom door opening and the teacher walking in. She looked around at her class who was now silent, looking up at her, wondering if she heard anything that had happened. Mrs. Felton's facial expression, looked as if she was contemplating whether or not to get on to us, or just pretend that nothing ever happened. She agonizingly sighed and said,

"Ms. Patel the principal is calling for you in his office. A family member is here."

She rubbed the tiredness out of her eyes and waited for me to leave. I was watching for someone to get up until I realized that she was talking about me,

"oh! Umm... Right. Sorry. I'll just be going then I suppose"

I awkwardly said walking out of the classroom. I sashayed slowly towards the principles office, conjecturing why he needed me. I already knew grandma was the family member Mrs. Felton was talking about. Right I front of the principals door, I heard sobs from inside. I knocked before infiltrating the room. I saw my grandmother sitting on a chair, tissues to her eyes. Once she saw me her tears thickened,

"Autumn. Your grandfather he-"

hysteria took over. It was like an instinct for me to immediately act. I cut her off from her sentence.

"He died!?"

I yelled with nervousness, looking around at them.

Was I right? No I couldn't be. I won't accept it. I never will.

Mr. Hale spoke up.

"Oh no Autumn. He's just having surgery. Turns out he has..."

He looked at me with condolence.

"He's what? What's wrong with my grandfather?!"

I asked slightly annoyed, I was tired and I needed to know if he was okay. Mr. Hale looked up and continued,

"The reason for his sickness is because he has brain cancer."

Sorry this chapter isn't the best. It's a bit boring, but I promise it will get better soon. Thanks for the reads yesterday! I honestly didn't think I would get that much. But anyways thanks and chapter three will be up soon, maybe tomorrow or the day after that? But I will upload it before Monday hopefully.
