When he pulled out in his Merc, he saw Annika, and Ansh, standing outside the hospital, in the scorching sun, trying to hail a rickshaw. At first he thought of driving by, and making a run for it. He should get back to his normal life! This was all too much for him!
Contrary to what his brain was opting for, he decided that fleeing was not an option. At least he was not a coward...He has always fought his battles with his head held up high. Ansh was an awesome kid...And Annika...She was...She was her...that brave woman who decided to have this awesome kid all alone and now fighting to keep him alive...
"Err Hi Guys...Can I drop you somewhere?" He mumbled, putting the shutter down.
"OHHH WOW Cool car Shivaay! Momma and I,we are going to marine drive, why don't you come with us?"
"Ansh...Mr.Oberoi Must be so busy...He's already done us a huge favour by coming all this way...So..." Ann tried to reason with her son.
"I'd...I'd actually love to...Why don't you guys get in? My meeting just got pushed to 5 PM. So I have time!"
He texted his assistant to cancel all his meetings for the rest of the day. The moment Ansh invited him, he decided that there was nothing more important than getting to know him. He's gotta stop running away and start accepting the reality at some point!
"Ah Mr.Oberoi you really don't have to"
She sounded so formal, he felt like throwing up. Where has their young, carefree days gone? She was right back then—the shit had gotten real. They have become these two rigid, adults, who was bound by formalities, and social pressures. There's no way they would ever feel like they did before. 7 years ago...
He got off and settled Ansh, in the back seat first. He then returned to open the front passenger door for her.
"Err..Th..Thanks..."
She muttered and closed the door. He noticed, the hem of her dress getting caught in between, and he opened the door again to tuck it in safely inside.
"Oh thanks...I'll get it...!"
Their finger tips touched briefly, and Ann took her hand away feeling embarrassed. She knew her cheeks were turning red, and she looked away, muttering a curse under her breath. What was it with these pulses? This had got to stop! She noticed he awkwardly, got back in. His ear tips had turned beetroot red. Just like the very first time they bumped in to each other 7 years ago.
Ansh got too excited seeing his favourite candy floss kiosk, passing marine drive. He almost jumped out of the car the moment they stopped, but thankfully Shiv, had put the child lock on. Ann gave him a look of an impressed mother. He nodded, silently accepting the subtle compliment.
"Not bad for someone who has never been around kids!" She said breaking the ice, as they walked side by side towards the beach.
"Ah well...You don't have to be around kids to have common sense..." He grinned.
Ansh ran to the vendor, and started chatting with him. He really had a lot of people skills.
He asked the vendor for an Ansh special and the vendor nodded and started making a rainbow coloured candy floss, but a smaller one.
"Err Is that it? Shouldn't it be bigger?" Shivaay asked paying for the candy floss when Ansh confessed,
"I can't taste it Shivaay...I just like the texture of it..."
"What do you mean you can't taste it?"
"It's the Chemo...Doc says I'll start tasting things soon...Until then this should do! Cheers"
