FERRET
Classes are over for the day and I've decided to go to the Transfiguration Courtyard to draw. I'm carrying my sketchbook and a small case in the pocket of my robes, which I've made bigger with a charm so I can fit more things in my pockets. Kind of like Mary Poppins' magic bag, Herms and I love that film.On the way, I come across a strange scene. Professor Moody, hiding behind a pillar on the porch, he seems to be watching Harry Potter. I let it be and continue on my way to the large tree in the centre of the courtyard, where I usually draw. I sit down at the foot of the tree and reach into my enchanted pocket for what I need. Just as I'm about to pull it out Malfoy and company approach me.
-Eleanor, what a surprise -he says monotone-. Out of my way, this tree is mine.
-Actually, the tree is Dumbledore's, Malfoy, which takes away your right to kick me out -I reply, and seeing his angry face I decide to hold out my peace pipe to him, I don't want any trouble-. But I don't see any problem with you being in the tree as well.
-I'm not sharing the same air as a mudblood -Parkinson says with a grimace of disgust. I copy her expression as I reply.
- Parkinson, I thought you had at least a single brain cell -I reply with a disapproving click of my tongue-. The air doesn't change, everyone is sharing the same air because we're on the same planet.
Surprisingly, Malfoy laughs at my quip. After a few seconds of confusion, Crabbe and Goyle do the same, and I see the shadow of a smile on Zabini's face. Nott looks indifferent, with a book under his arm, he seems to be bored and wants to get back to his book. The dog-face makes a sour expression but doesn't answer. Finally, the blond hops up the tree and I can't help but mock him for it.
-Wow Malfoy, I didn't know you were a monkey, have you been taking polyjuice potion to hide it from us?
To the surprise of everyone listening, he doesn't answer, he just sticks his tongue out at me, amused. That confuses me, but I do my best not to let it show. He must be in a good mood. Or maybe he has hit his head. Yes, the latter is more likely.
I see his gaze shift elsewhere and his mouth quirks into a cocky grin.
-There's Potter! -he shouts, which makes me turn my head towards Potter, who seems to be in a bad mood-. Why so tense, Potter? My father and I made a bet. I told him you wouldn't last ten minutes in the Tournament -he jumps out of the tree and almost steps on me.
-You idiot! -I shout, getting up and standing behind him.
Malfoy turns for a second to look at me with a smirk and looks back at Potter, his expression changing to one of superiority as he looks at him.
Strange.
-What do you think he said? -the blond asks, advancing towards Harry-. That you wouldn't last five!
His lapdogs start laughing and Harry responds angrily.
-I don't give a damn what your father says, Malfoy! He's vile and cruel, and you're pathetic.
I decide to intervene so that this doesn't get out of hand and they end up throwing Avada Kedavras at each other.
-Come on, Harry, let it go, it's just a joke -I say, but Professor Moody interrupts me by casting a spell at Malfoy-. What are you doing?! You can't do that to a student!
He doesn't hear my complaints and casts a levitation spell on the ferret-Malfoy. As I keep telling him to stop and Harry laughs, McGonagall comes to the rescue.
In the end, she manages to turn the ferret back into the insufferable boat-blonde boy.
-My father is going to hear about this! -he shouts as he walks off, the lapdogs following him.
-Threatening with the same thing again? You're not original, you little ferret -he turns angrily to watch me but then turns away without replying and walks off.
I turn to Harry to wish him luck tomorrow, in the first round of the Tournament, but I see that he is leaving along with Professor Moody. As I walk past him to leave the courtyard, I overhear them talking about the first test and mentioning dragons.
Dragons!
I know my next stop.
I enter the library determinedly - but quietly too, I don't want Mrs Pince to throw me out - and head for the magical creatures shelf. I open a random book and look for the word dragons in the index. I can't believe they really exist.
I read for a couple of hours all about what the author, a certain Scammander, has to say about these creatures that I find more and more fascinating. As I leave the library I see my twin and decide to start the interrogation.
