Chapter One

There is a place in Northern Germany where a large mansion resides in seclusion, covered with thickening trees and land as far as the eye can see, however what goes on inside this towering home for the wealthy is another story.

Deep down in the stone basement corridor the eleven year old daughter of the family Aya Drevis, a quite girl with long black hair as dark as night with a red bow tied in the back, her blue eyes and pale complexion along with the blue and white dress with a small gold pendent around her neck made her look pretty, at least that’s what her father always said.

She knocked on the door of her father’s laboratory calling out to him. “Father…” she paused waiting for a reply before she knocked again. “Father, are you in there?”

The door opened then and she stepped back as a tall thin yet thin looking man stepped out, he had short messy brown hair that at times seemed as if he never bothered to brush, oval glasses resting on the bridge of his nose covering his dark brown eyes from her sight, while half of his face was covered by a white mask.  He wore a black dress shirt that always has the first top button left undone, dark brown slacks and a white lab coat over top.

Aya smiled as she saw him. “Father!” she spoke in a cheerful voice, though her father, Alfred Drevis, did not seem too pleased by this.

“Aya!” he scolded. “How many times have I told you not to come down here?”

Her smile fell as her blue eyes looked downcast to the floor. “Sorry father…” she shifted slightly from foot to foot before adding. “But… um… I’m too scared to sleep on my own…”

This seemed to diminish whatever anger Alfred had. “Aya…” he knelt down on one knee so the two would be eye level with each other. “Don’t worry, you’re never alone. Your late mother is always there at your side… She’s always there looking after you, Aya.”

She looked up at him, not saying anything in response.

“Okay? Now please, get to bed.”

Aya nodded. “Yes, father…”

“Good girl.”

Aya turned and began to walk away, only to stop and turn around and quickly headed back to him and said. “Father, tomorrow’s…”

“Yes.” Alfred finished for her. “The anniversary of her death… we’ll visit her grave together.”

She smiled sweetly at him. “Okay.”

“Now, go back to bed, please. I’ll be resting too shortly.”

“Okay…” she turned and began walking down the hallway corridor only to stop when she heard her father step in and close the door, she looked back and stared at the door for a moment before continuing until the sounds of someone screaming could be heard coming from the every room her father stepped out of.

“S-stop! Noooo! WAAAAH! Help me! HEEEEEELLLP!!”

The distinct sound of a chainsaw could be heard followed by the blood curtailing screams of the one whom the chainsaw was being used on. Aya said nothing, showed no reaction as she continued to walk down the hallway to the stairs that would lead her back up to the main floor of the mansion and back to her bedroom.

She knew her father’s secret, her father was a scientist. He has a love for research and was always locked up in his lab in the basement. And Aya always heard things from that lab, animal and human screams. Even at a young age, Aya knew what her father was doing, so she pretended she wasn’t looking. That she didn’t know or hear anything. She feigned ignorance the whole time, because she loved her father.
