Chapter Two

The sound of a man screaming in fear awoke Aya, jerking her upright in her bed as her blue eyes went wide with shock.

“That scream… father?” she jumped out of bed, her small heart racing as she headed to the door. “Something must have happened… I have to go and see if he’s alright!” she reached the door, hand extended to the knob, but then she stilled and drew her hand back pressing it into her small chest. “I have a bad feeling about this…” she said to herself, but then shook it off as best she could, no, she did not have time for this!

Opening the door she rushed out into the hallway but did not make it far from her room when she slowed down from a run to a walk of concern. What’s this sound…? She thought. Is it a voice…?

Just then bloody footprints came across the wall and on to the floor stopping only a foot away from the girl, Aya screamed before falling backwards, looking at the bloody footprints with fearful eyes. But before she even had the chance to recover from the shock the lights to the hallway flickered out leaving the girl in almost pitch black darkness, and in that moment two beings that had once looked human stood before her, there flesh held the rotting stink of decomposing while blood dripped from their open maggot infested wounds.

“No!” Aya screamed as she backed away but the undead beings just drew closer. “No… don’t…” she begged fearing for her life.

“This way!” the sound of a young boy’s voice came from the opposite end of the hall.

“Who’s that!?” she demanded even though she was scared.

“Come this way!” the boy called out again.

Is someone really there? She thought but didn’t bother in contemplating it; she rushed down the other end of the hallway towards where the voice was coming from. She reached the end of the hall, near the door which led to the place where her mother used to keep wine. There near the door was a young boy with blond hair and amber eyes, he wore a dirty white dress shirt, that had a ding of brown from constant use of being warn, though in the mix of the grim was red, there were slight indications that this unknown boy had been hurt, he had dark brown pants with matching suspenders as he looked at her with a sideways glance, his head slightly tilted to the side as if not to reveal the other side of his face to her.

She stopped dead in her tracks and looked at him with slight curiousness and confusion. “Who are you?” she asked.

“This way.” He said softly.

“Who…?” she was about to repeat again but the words were suddenly stuck in her throat.

“Stay with me.” the boy said before turning to reach the door closer then turning to face her fully. “Now hurry! I said this way!”

Aya froze the right side of the boy’s face, it looked so badly burned, and his right eye was completely gone, leaving nothing but an empty dark hole that was coated with red blood and puss from the unhealed skin.

Aya screamed at the sight before turning around and running away from the boy as fast as possible, his cries for her to come back were unheard by her ears as she ran. She had just reached the door of her room when she saw those same two monsters from before drawing nearer and nearer to her. She let out another scream of fright before dashing back into her room, closing and then locking the door.

She pressed her thin body against the wood hoping that the old door would keep those gruesome creatures away but before she could even breathe a sigh of relief she noticed that someone was standing in the corner of her bedroom looking through the many books that were lined up on the shelves.
