About a month had gone by and Diane had mostly healed. Demons can heal far more quickly than humans. Ava had yet to test their abilities, so she decided to move forward now that Diane was almost completely healed. Diane and Devin were in a contained room with many obstacles waiting to come at them. Ava had invented the room years ago to train herself and test her own abilities after she became blind so that she could protect herself and fight anyone she had to without sight.
"Okay, I'm going to throw some stuff at you." Ava says, through a speaker. There was a two way mirror higher up in the room where Ava was watching to monitor them. Diane and Devin get ready and they both start to get chills. Ava had turned down the temperature to see their reaction to the cold. "Hey, what're you doing?" Diane shouts. "Do you not like the cold?" she asks. "No, it burns!" Devin shouts. Ava turns up the temperature to make it hotter and Diane and Devin get more relaxed. "Sorry." Ava says. "You're good." Diane says, somewhat pissed off. A door opens in front of them and a small machine rolls out. The door closes and they both look at each other. It was a tennis ball launcher. "What's this for?" Diane asks. "To test your reflexes." Ava says. Diane shrugs. "Alright." she mutters. Two tennis balls get launched out at them and Diane stops them with her power. The ball floats in mid air and then drops to the ground. Devin had done the same thing, but there was black smoke surrounding the ball. Diane looks at him and then realizes that he looked somewhat like Scarlett. Their skin colors were exactly the same and he had her eyes. "Huh." Diane says. "What?" Devin asks. "You look like her." she says. "Who?" he asks. "Our mother." Diane says. Devin shivers. "I don't like that." he says, trying not to think of how he could look like such a monster. Diane chuckles lightly at his reaction.
After an hour of various physical tests, they move to a room in the lab with nothing but medical equipment. Ava gets her stethoscope and holds it to Diane's chest. She moves it around on different spots to hear nothing. "Why don't you have a heartbeat?" Ava asks. "I'm technically not alive, but I kind of am." Diane sighs. "It's complicated." she says. "Alright." Ava says, trying to understand the logic. She looks at her watch and then stands up straighter. "Oh, I have to go!" Ava says. "Go where?" Devin asks. "Washington, I live there. My wife might be worried about me. Plus, we're thinking about starting a family! Will you two be okay to take care of the city while I'm gone. I'll come back in a few months to check on everything. And I'll call every once in a while." she says, in a rush. "We got this, go take care of everything you need to." Diane says, confidently. Ava nods though she is worried about the two of them staying out of trouble while she is away. "Thank you and good luck." Ava says, rushing out of the room.
Within an hour, Ava was gone. Diane and Devin had watched television before deciding to fly around the city and look for trouble. They climb out of the window and jump out. They start flying over to one of the buildings and land on top of one. They both sit down and look at the city as the sun sets. Diane closes her eyes and channels her power, trying to find something going on in the city. Once she finds something she jumps off of the building and starts flying. She lands in the streets and walks around until she finds the place. She goes into an alleyway and leans against the wall, waiting for something to happen. Then, someone starts following a lady into the alleyway. The woman looked scared as the rough looking man stalked her. Diane watches as the man gets really close and then pulls a gun on her. "Give me your wallet!" he shouts, holding a gun to her head. Diane sighs before walking over to them. She grabs the guy's gun from behind and throws it to the ground. "Look man, you don't gotta do this." she says, trying to be reasonable. The lady runs away quickly as the man towers over Diane. "You little shit!" he shouts, swinging at Diane. She ducks and then punches him in the stomach as she stands up. The man flies back and hits the wall of another building. Diane dusts her hands off and then flies back to Devin. "Where'd you go?" he asks. "Just a robbery." she says. "Cool." Devin says. They both stay out there for a while, stopping crimes and saving people before going back to their tower. They both shower and then rest on the couch together. After a few minutes, they were both asleep on the couch with the TV on.
