"I know just who I'll dance with!" Meg exclaims happily from her spot on the chair. "Who will you dance with, Jo?" Amy questions. "You know I never dance." Jo says as she turns to her other younger sister. "And you, Alice?" Jo questions.
"I can't dance." Beth mutters from her spot on the bed, Alice smiles at her. "I can show you how once we have returned." She says as she hugs Beth as she grins wildly. "Oh, thank you!" Beth exclaims.
"Why can't we all go to the party?! It's not fair!" Amy exclaims as Alice stands. "Amy you are not yet old enough to accompany us to these formal festivities. Next year perhaps." She says as she holds her sister's face in her hands.
Amy sighs but moves towards the mirror once again. "My nose will simply not look refined." Amy complains once more. "I like your nose." Beth says, but it falls upon deaf ears excluding Alice who grins at her. The two girls watch as Amy moves towards Jo who became hostile in a short amount of time.
"-don't touch me, thanks! I already feel ridiculous I don't want to look it!" Jo exclaims as she and Amy begin to become wrapped up in their conversation. "I don't want to go but I wish I could hear all the music." Beth says, sighing dreamily. "I'll keep it all in my head and sing it for you when I get home. I promise." Alice says as she kisses the top of Beth's head.
"Is there supposed to be that much smoke?" Alice questions as she looks at Meg's hair. "It's the dampness drying." Jo says in a matter-of-fact tone, Alice looks on, concerned for her eldest sister.
"What a queer smell - it's like... burnt feathers." Amy says as she begins to put some pants on over her nightdress. "There, now you'll see a perfect little ringlet." Jo says as she removes the tongs, but Meg's hair following. Alice covers her mouth as Jo shrieks loudly.
Amy laughs wildly as Meg rushes towards the mirror. "Marmee! I can't go, I'm spoiled!" Meg wails, but her sisters immediately rush to comfort her.
The three sisters arrived at the ball, Meg wore a purple dress, Jo wore a red one, and Alice wore a royal blue dress covered with a jacket to keep her warm in the snippy weather. "Don't stare, don't put your hands behind your back, don't say Christopher Columbus, don't say Capital, don't shake hands, don't whistle-" Meg says mostly to Jo, but Alice is pulled away.
"Oh Meg, there's a garden." She says dreamily as she wanders off towards the beautiful greenery. "Alice-" Meg begins but is cut off as the youngest of the trio walks away. She grins as she makes it outside to where the snow falls freshly. "I did not think anyone would be out here." A brunette boy with curly hair says as he looks at young Alice.
