Meg's wedding was to be absolutely beautiful. Jo, Beth, and Amy had gone outside while Alice sat next to her sister who looked absolutely wrecked.
"What's wrong?" Alice questions as she looks to her eldest sister. "I'm scared." Meg confesses as she stands to go and sit next to her little sister, leaning her head on her shoulder.
"Of what?" Alice questions as she rubs her sister's shoulder in comfort. "Leaving you all." Meg says softly.
"You shouldn't worry about us, we can handle our own dear sister." Alice says. "But-" "No buts, you are in love with Mr. Brooke, and you are so incredibly happy with him. Please do not put your life on hold so you can worry over us." Alice says, Meg sighing.
A knock at the door brought both of them from their thoughts, Jo standing in the doorway. "May I have a word with you? Alone." Jo says causing Alice to stand. "Please try to remember what I told you." Alice says as she walks outside, skipping with her younger sisters as they gathered flowers.
The ceremony was beautiful, Alice shed a few tears of happiness for her sister. She was overjoyed in the fact that her sister had someone to love, and that she had someone to love her in return.
Alice had been dancing with Amy and Beth when Laurie had walked over, offering his hand towards Alice. Amy cooed at her older sister who shook her head playfully, placing her hand in his as the music began to speed up.
Alice laughed happily as she was twirled rather swiftly, Laurie grinning at her laughs. Soon Laurie began dancing with Beth, Amy and Alice walking around.
"Oh, let's go say hello to Aunt March." Amy says as she and her older sister walk over to the older woman. "Oh, and here are the only sane members of the family." Aunt March says as she releases Marmee and grasps Alice's arm with one hand, Amy's with the other.
Marmee grins after her girls as she walks away. The news being revealed to the two girls forever changed their lives.
Amy immediately ran to their mother while Alice held back a wide smile as Amy stood in front of her mother and sister. "Marmee! Marmee! Marmee, Marmee, Marmee!" Amy exclaims.
"What?" Marmee questions with a laugh as Alice stands with Amy. "Aunt March is going to Europe." Amy says, her tone full of excitement.
"Oh, and she wants me to go with her! That's wonderful! Now I know why I spent all those boring hours reading to her." Jo says as she hugs their mother, Alice and Amy's heart dropping slightly.
"No, no, she wants us to go." Amy begins as she motions between Alice and herself. "As her companions." Alice concludes, Jo's face becoming one of disappointment.
"Europe, with you two?" Jo questions. "Yes, she wants me to work on my art and my French, of course. She wants Alice to continue her singing and work further on her poetry." Amy speaks on her and Alice's behalf.
"You don't really like French though, do you?" Amy continues, Jo's face falling further. "That's wonderful." Jo says as Amy grins rushing to their father.
Alice grasps her older sister's hands. "I'm sorry Jo." Alice says as she hugs her sister, Jo hugging her back.
----present day----
Alice hasn't moved from her bed in days. The letter revealing her little sister's tragic demise sat on her bedside. Amy had walked in dressed in black, laying a black dress on her sister's bed. Aunt March being sick in bed, so the youngest sister took charge.
"The carriage is here." Amy says, her voice revealing that she had been crying recently. "I won't go unless Beth will be there waiting for me." Alice says, her voice cracking.
After an hour Alice had stood by the fields as she watched Amy converse with Fred. Laurie had walked over and stood by her side, noticing the heavy bags under her eyes, tear stains ran down her cheeks.
"Laurie." Alice says softly as the man brought her close, hugging her near. Alice let more tears fall as she buried her face in his shoulder.
"Couldn't let you travel alone with Aunt March being so sick." Laurie says as he continues holding her close, letting out a soft sigh.
"Even if you despise me." Laurie says, Alice letting out a sniffle. "I don't despise you, Theo." Alice says, her voice breaking a bit as Laurie held her closer than ever.
"Beth was the best of us. She was the best of me." Alice says as she pulls away from him, looking down to the grass, then ahead of her. Laurie stared at her, a question on the tip of his tongue, she knew which one.
"I'm not marrying Allan." Alice says as she looks to the side. "I heard about that." Laurie says, silently pleading for her to look at him. "And you are under no obligation to say anything or do anything. I could never love him like I love-" Alice paused as she looked up at him.
Laurie stared back down to her as she said the one word he had been hoping for. "You." She says. Laurie instantly pressed his lips against hers, Alice wrapping her arms around his neck as he brought her close.
Amy turned and saw her sister and Laurie, a small smile making its way to her face.
"Alice." Laurie says as they broke apart, the younger woman looking up at him. "Theo." She says causing for a cheeky smile to appear on his face.
"I was a stupid boy who thought that loving the attention of someone meant that I was in love with someone. I'm in love with you, I have been ever since the night we almost got frostbite from dancing in the snow." Laurie says, Alice chuckling as she wiped some tears.
"Will you marry me Alice?" Laurie questions softly as he holds out a silver sing, Alice gasping. "How long have you had this?" Alice questions as she looks to Laurie.
"Since New Years, I've had this planned for quite some time." Laurie says, Alice shaking her head. "You're so." Alice says as she cups his face in her hands, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "Is that a yes?" Laurie questions. "Of course." Alice says as he slips the ring onto her finger.
Before all of them had made it back to Massachusetts, Alice and Laurie had officially gotten married. Amy and Fred were witnesses, it was a small wedding but they couldn't have been happier.
Amy had gushed to her sister about 'I told you so'. Laurie watched his wife with a smile. He knew that this may have felt rushed, but it truly felt right to him. Proposing to Jo was one of the worst decisions he had made, not only because it had gotten his heart broken, but he hurt the girl he loved most.
But as he sat here in the carriage watching his wife and sister in law giggle to each other, he knew he made the right decision. 'I love you' Laurie mouthed to her, Alice flushing a bright red. 'I love you." Alice mouthed right back.
