Coles POV:
"-so goodbye asshole!" Is all I hear a girl say as I walked closer towards all the commotion. As I got nearer I saw a big circle formed around Jeremy of course, 2 random chicks and who is that I can't see her face? Oh-oh wait, it's that Lacey girl from yesterday! Why has she got tears down her face, Why is she clenching her cheek? All these thoughts are interrupted as Jeremy was about to walk away with his posse when his eyes noticed mine. "Oh look who it is now, Cole blood-cult Johnson coming to defend his ugly little cunt of a girlfriend, once again!"
"She's not my girlfriend asshole, and she's far from ugly, your just mad you can't get someone who is as outstanding as her" I say with a blank face, I could hear a couple of murmurs and quiet laughter, trying to hold back a smirk. I looked at her for a split second and is she..blushing? Or is that just from her holding her face, I can't tell? "Pfft Whatever you say blood cult" he says proudly, walking off. How original.
Lacey's POV:
D-did Cole just call me outstanding? Or was he just trying to roast Jeremy? Probably the second one, I thought to myself. I looked to my left and found Brooke smirking at me so I jokingly rolled my eyes. I turned back around and the hallway is nearly back to normal seeing as everyone had lost interest except Cole, who was walking towards me. Why did I feel nervous? Lilli whispered to me "We'll leave you to it" and before I could tell her to stay, her and Brooke had already walked off.
He eventually approached me. "Hey Lacey right? Uh-" why did he seem nervous too? I mean he is generally a quiet person, well up until now. "What happened to your face? If you don't really..mind me asking?" I started to feel embarrassed but answered anyway. "Oh it's just Jeremy" of course, "He was spreading rumours about me and him dating which is obviously incorrect, I told him to stop and this is what I got" I gestured to my hand holding my face, trying to hold back any tears I hadn't already cried.
"Do you mind if I take a look?" I nodded in agreement, I don't know why but I oddly trust him? He carefully took my hand off my face to reveal the bright red hand mark Jeremy had left. "ahh" I said quietly trying not to show how painful it was. "Oh jeez this looks like it needs ice, I'll bring you to the nurses office" he said and smiled at me.
We both waited to be seen by the nurse outside until he called for us next, I sat down still covering my cheek. "So uh what seems to be the problem here?" he already sounded fed up and school hasn't even properly started yet. I took my hand away from my face "oh man yikes uh gurl I think you need some ice." he paused, "well don't just stand there Cole, go get the damn Ice packs!" Cole jolted slightly and went into the back room to get what he was told to. I laughed and jokingly remarked, "and your qualified to work here?", "lady what do ya think? I'm a middle aged black man working as a nurse in a high school.", well I guess that answered my question.
Soon after, Cole came back in with an ice pack and a towel wrapped around it, "Here this should help it" "thanks" I replied quietly and go to take it off him when he stopped me. "No it's okay I can, your arm must be aching from holding your face so much already". "Oh okay well uh thanks" I said giving him a small smile as he placed it gently against my face. From the corner of my eye I can see him staring into mine but I don't dare to look at him back.
The nurse eventually opened his mouth, "So lady how did this even happen? Don't tell me it was another one of them crazy bitch girl fights, I've already had two this morning" Wow this Nurse is sassy as fuck. "No uh, have you ever heard of Jeremy Brown?" Cole says before I could make up something to excuse Jeremy. "Oh so you telling me a dude did this to you? Nuh uh ima have to bring this up to the principal", My heart dropped. I flash a glare at Cole and whisper out the side of my mouth "Great look what you've done", he does the same "I'm just trying to help" obviously oblivious to what he's just done. He redirected his attention to the nurse. Oh I actually feel kinda bad now.
I ended up giving the nurse the full run through of what led me up to this, I didn't really have a choice realistically. He eventually let us leave after he had written a report. As soon as I stepped outside with Cole following behind, I turned to him. " Do you know what you just got us into??", "What are you talking about?" He replied. "Jeremy's dad is literally the Vice Principal! We are screwed!!". "Look Lacey it's going to be fine, at least he's not the actual principal and even if he was, he should still know how to do his job right" I guess he's right and..wow why did he give me butterflies when he said my name? "Yeah Cole I guess your right, sorry." He gave me a look of reassurance as in 'no hard feelings'. "Also I've been needing to thank you properly for what you did for me yesterday, especially since you don't even know me too well, als-" he cut me off "It's nothing don't sweat it, I couldn't of just left you there with him, what kind of person would do that?" I thought about what he just said, he's right? I guess I'm not so used to people being so nice to me. He caught my attention again, "How about to make it up to me by giving me your number?" he handed me a pen looking actually quite nervous. "Oh yeah of course! But I don't really have anywhere to write it-" he cut me off once more "here just write it there" he gestured to me to write it on his hand. Something tells me he doesn't ask for girls numbers very often, I think it's cute. I wrote out my number on his hand, "Now we can get to know each other for real" I said, he smiled at me as the bell rang for the official school day to start. "Oh I better get going, I've got Chem first and Professor Martin doesn't take a liking to late students" I giggle at what he says and we part ways, one again.
