Resistance - Team SOS

Flying back, gem included

To say the explosion was 'big' would be an understatement.

In nearly the dead of night, something flew out of the building in a streak of red, light blue and cyan. One of them was using their air shoes, another was using their jet engine and the last was using their telekinesis to carry themself, along with the reason for their arrival; a strange magenta gemstone in the shape of a multi sided decagon.

Tails had caught its energy on his radar while looking for any more traces of the Phantom Ruby, and apparently the signal coming from it was strong enough to grab his attention. Silver was carrying it, and on his left and right were Metal Sonic, who really prefers to be called Metal now, and Shadow... wearing a stoic expression as usual.

Together, the trio made the Resistance's first 'sub group', Team SOS! And with Metal on the team, this was his first mission. In the Mystic Ruins.

"Hopefully Tails will be able to get this off of Robotnik's radar... because frankly, I'm not sure I want to find out what it is." Silver commented, tilting his head at the gemstone in his hands.

"The whole reason we were sent here by him was the massive energy output from this crystal. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to go back there and make a device that could track it." Shadow said.

"Hence.....you blew the whole building up." Silver said flatly, raising an eyebrow at the black and red hedgehog. He gave a quick nod in response. "It's best we destroy whatever trace that we were there. Or that crystal, for that matter."

"....yeah....that makes sense..." Metal said, his optics focused ahead on the course back to Sunset City, but sounding like he wasn't entirely there. Was he lost in thought? About what?

"Metal? Is something wrong?" Silver asked, looking at the robot, whose painted coat was as blue as the night sky around them. He almost blended into it... his head raised up a bit, as if he was snapped out of whatever trance he was in.

"O-oh, don't fret, Silver... I'm perfectly fine. I was just... wondering how many variants of trees grow here."

"Hehehe! Having a love for nature, eh Mets?"

"...indeed..."

...

The flight back was silent now. Unusually so... this was Metal's first time working with them....maybe they felt uncomfortable with him. It's understandable, though. He barely had any time with the 'Resistance'....considering he-

"AAAAAAAAAAAUGH!!!!" Silver yelled out in pain, shaking Metal out of his thoughts immediately. He looked to the silver colored hedgehog, and he was...being zapped by the gemstone!? Before he could even say a word, the gemstone's glow settled, and Silver's eyes rolled up before dropping like a fly.

"SILVER!!!" Metal and Shadow yelled in unison, both flying down to catch him. They caught him by the waist, slowing his descent, but Shadow saw the gemstone falling, and quickly!! Out of impulse, he shoved Silver into Metal's arms and used a spindash to rocket down to it...

But they both fell into the leaves of one of the trees.

What a thorny way to end a mission.
