The pair of them made their way out to the nearby forest and back to Dream's base, climbing up the temporary rope ladder and getting somewhat comfortable inside of the fairly large treehouse. Dream yanked the ladder back up and settled down, pulling the last few strips of beef jerky out of his pockets and tossing it into his mouth.
Suddenly, they heard footsteps approaching from the other side of the room as a figure appeared out of the shadows. "Dream? Who the fuck is this!?," They hissed, glaring at Sapnap with the heat of a thousand suns, if looks could kill then he'd be long gone. "Why did you bring somebody back to our base? They could be infected for all we know! Or, a bandit!"
Dream stood back up with a quiet groan, stretching his arms and rolling his shoulders, before walking over to them. "George, calm down, they're not a bandit... And even if they were, I think that we'd have the upper hand in a fight," He said. "Plus, bandits typically scavenge corpses... Not blindly trust random people and follow them home."
"Are you actually being serious right now? Okay, so maybe they're not here to kill us and loot our bodies before dipping faster than you can say 'I told you so'... But you KNOW that we're already struggling with food, so why would you bring home a new mouth to feed!? You can't just go around adopting useless pedestrians that have somehow happened to survive this long."
"Hey, i'm not useless!," Sapnap interrupted. "And i'm not just some lucky guy who happened to live, i'm completely capable of surviving... I've been on my own for months, you know, and i'm NOT infected."
"Yeah right," George replied, turning to look over at him before he started stalking over. "What's so special about you that we should let you stay here, huh? You can't just be some potlicker that hangs around here, like a stray animal waiting on food, you have to be able to do your part and pitch in or else you'll DIE."
Sapnap slowly moved away from him, getting backed up against a wall and into a corner. "I told you to cut it out, George," Dream snapped, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Be nice, who knows, maybe he'll be better at finding food than we are... Also, he's a good fighter, and he might be small enough to get into that air vent that we found... There's bound to be food hidden in that room, it would be so helpful to get in there."
"I'm not THAT short, geez, you don't have to rub it in..." Sapnap mumbled. George sighed in exasperation, glancing between the two with an agonised expression. "Fine... He can stay, I suppose... But if he doesn't manage to pull his own weight then he's out of here, got it? I'll gladly feed his ass to the zombies, it'll keep them occupied for long enough to loot practically any building."
Dream nodded for him, looking at Sapnap expectantly until he also rapidly nodded, because the raveonette was just glad to have a place to stay where he didn't have to constantly fend off wild animals or infected. "T-thank you, I appreciate it, I really do... And I can definitely help out, I swear... My name's Sapnap, by the way."
George shrugged him off, returning to his place in the shade where he continued to sort various materials. Dream tossed his bags over to the brunette, showing him what he'd managed to collect within the short time that he'd been out. "Couldn't find much, and I just finished the last of that jerky... I met a cat, though, which means that this area isn't completely overrun by infected yet."
"Yeah, well, we're still going to have to move soon... I swear that I saw a brute around here, and a howler, so I think that we should only stay tonight and tomorrow night, we leave in two days at dawn," George replied, quickly beginning to sort the new items. "If we move in the early hours, there will be less infected but we will still have plenty of time to find a new base of operations before nightfall."
"Got it, sounds good." Dream said, sitting back down again. Sapnap, with caution, warily sat back down in the corner with a quiet sigh as he heard his stomach groan. "Hey... Uhh... You don't happen to have any food, do you? I'm honestly starving, this city has been plucked clean, I haven't even smelt anything edible in days."
George shook his head, not even bothering to look up from his task as he replied. "Nope, sorry, we're completely out... The last thing that we had was some beef jerky that I gave to Dream, it was supposed to last him long enough to go out into the city and find some more food..." The blonde shrugged, picking some of the meat out from between his teeth with a twig as he sat back. "It's not my fault that i'm a hungry man, i've got a lot to feed, y'know, i'm a big guy."
"Whatever, it's fine, i'll just find something tomorrow... Hopefully," Sapnap responded, shoulders slumping. "For now, i'll just sleep it off... It's getting late, anyways."
"Yeah, same here." George added, shoving the supplies aside and grabbing an old blanket covered in holes and tears from the corner, laying down on top of it and pulling the excess over his body. "Dream... It's your turn to keep watch tonight... I'm going to sleep."
The taller man nodded, shuffling over to the edge of the platform and settling down for the night. "Got it... Don't worry, nothing will make it past my senses, i'm like a true sentinel."
