TW: Mention of violence
Karl waited outside headmaster Scott's door for 10 minutes before the door opened.
"Mr Jacobs. Come in." Scott said.
Karl entered the room, smelling dust and another strange smell he couldn't quite recognise.
"You should have knocked." The older man closed the door behind Karl.
Karl stayed quiet.
"I'm sure you know why you're here."
Karl nodded. "Yes, sir."
"Your friend Nicholas has been suspended for two weeks. And quite honestly speaking, it should be for longer. However, due to certain circumstances, with Nicholas being a well-competing member in school sports, and obtaining excellent grades, we're being more lenient with only two weeks of suspension. How does that sound?"
"Reasonable." Karl replied.
"Indeed," Mr Scott nodded, "But we cannot deny the seriousness of the offences. Mr Soot suffered grievous bodily harm, and so Nicholas will be referred to the police for some assessing, I believe."
Karl felt deeply uncomfortable in hearing this.
"Although, I must mention that Wilbur will also be interrogated for posting such an image of you and Mr Armstrong. Such invasion of privacy is a serious violation, as well as harassment. We obviously don't tolerate this at our institution. This may mean that your friend, Nicholas, could suffer less of a punishment. But nothing is certain at the moment. Is this all making sense?"
"Yes," Karl said, "It makes sense."
"And although authorities are already involved with both parties, you also have the right to take legal action against-"
"No, it's fine. I don't want to."
Mr Scott looked displeased at being interrupted. "If you insist." He observed Karl. "Do you have any questions?"
Karl thought for a second. "Nick was supposed to have a basketball competition next week. Is he allowed to go to it?"
"No."
"But it's not on school premises." Karl said.
"Unfortunately for Nicholas, he cannot represent the school during his suspension."
Karl sighed quietly. He knew that Nick had been training hard, for a long time. His team needed him and he was a great player, from what Karl had heard.
Besides, Karl had been planning to go and watch the game with Nick's friends, to support him.
"Anything else?" Scott asked.
Karl shook his head.
"Okay. You may leave, Mr Jacobs."
Karl moved towards the door.
"Also," Scott said, causing Karl to turn around, "We do have sympathy for what was shared on social media. Be aware that it wasn't your fault. It was an invasion of your privacy."
Karl felt slightly more at ease after having heard this from the headmaster. However, it felt strange to be reassured by someone who was so notorious for being a horrible human- Karl had experienced it first hand.
Mr Scott opened the door. Karl decided to try and gain more empathy from the man, "Thank you, Sir." He said, exiting the room.
"Goodbye, Mr Jacobs." The door shut.
Walking away from the office, Karl took his phone out of his pocket. It had been on silent, and he had one missed call from Nick; 15 minutes ago, followed by 2 messages.
