WITH HER AIRPODS in, alaska delgado sat in the back seat blasting good days by sza in attempt to tune out her sisters rancid singing. with her brother roman while her aunt drove them to cousins beach.

"aunt sicily?" alaska called out from behind the drivers seat.

"yes?"

"can we stop at a gas station? i have to pee." she asked.

roman groaned, "this is the fourth time you've had to 'pee', ally. stop trying to stall, we all know you don't want to go to the house."

"i'm not trying to stall," ally lied, "i just have bad bladder issues."

"i swear to god, alaska sicily delgado, this will be the last time we stop. we're only a half hour away." their aunt replied from the drivers seat.

she pulled into a kwik trip and parked in the parking lot, "here's my card in case you're hungry. hurry up." she told the twins.

alaska and sydney walked into the gas station and muttered a hi to the cashier. ally headed straight for the candy isle and picked up a pack of nerds gummy clusters.

sydney came up next to her and grabbed a reeses, "why don't you want to go to the summer house?"

"i already told you earlier, i don't want to be reminded of mom. there's too many good memories there and it hurts too much to even smell the beach."

"you can't let that hold you back. you know mom would want you to continue living your life, whether she's here or not."

"holy shit, syd, i seriously don't need you telling me to get over my mothers death, trust me, i have plenty of people telling me that. you guys don't get it. you don't have to see her lifeless face laying on the ground every time you think of her. you weren't there." ally snapped.

sydney's expression softened, "i'm sorry, al."

"it's whatever. i just wanna get this over with." she sighed.

sydney took the card and paid at the register. the two walked back into the car and ally tried to continue to prepare herself for the encounter she was about to have with the families she hadn't seen since the funeral.

ally looked a lot different from the way she looked before her mom died. she had gotten her braces off, grown her hair out, gotten her incredibly bushy eyebrows waxed and went through puberty. her newfound breasts were not hard to miss along with the maturity that appeared in her face.

soon enough, their aunt sicily pulled in to the driveway of the fisher's residence. the bad feeling in the pit of ally's stomach was enough to tell her she didn't want to be there.  everywhere she looked, she could remember something she did with her mom there.

"fucking hell." she cursed under her breath.

she watched as belly, steven, jeremiah and conrad all conversated while not noticing the white bmw pull up.
