ALLY STOOD NEXT to her sister along with the rest of the kids as laurel spoke to the police officers. ally knew she was too drunk to comprehend anything they were saying, so she tried to zone out as best as possible.

"officers, thank you. it won't happen again, i can promise you that much." laurel spoke.

"tell mr. fisher the chief wants to set up a tee time when he gets back in town." the male police officer stated.

"absolutely. sorry again for all the trouble." she said, walking them out the door. "have a good night, officers."

"she's gonna come back in here and kill us." roman muttered.

ally started giggling, not knowing herself what was so funny. all six other children turned their heads to the girl, wondering what the hell she was laughing at.

"why the hell are you laughing? what's funny?" steven commented.

"i dunno." ally said between giggles.

"she's drunk. just let her be." sydney groaned.

"okay but when mom comes back in she needs to shut the hell up because she's just going to get us in more trouble." belly reminded.

looking around the room, ally's eyes caught jeremiah's. he was looking at her with concern and frustration. the girl sighed, knowing she would have to talk to him when they got upstairs.

laurel came back in the house and closed the door. all kids prepared themselves for the lecture they were about to get.

"how could you guys be so irresponsible?"

"mom, it wasn't a big deal. all right? seriously. the cops were just looking to break up the bonfire." steven stood up.

"not a big deal?"

"yes!"

"i would say getting picked up by the cops for underage drinking is a pretty big deal, steven." laurel scolded.

roman stood up to say something, but stopped when he smelt a concerning smell. "were you guys smoking tonight?"

"what? keep your voice down, susannah's asleep on the couch."

"neither of us were yelling. you were." roman countered.

"just so you know, laurel, i didn't drink tonight. i was the dd." jeremiah stepped up.

ally scoffed, "literally nobody asked, suck up."

jeremiah turned around and gave her an angry look before laurel moved her attention to conrad, "you're the oldest. what the hell's gotten into you?"

conrad stayed quiet but the older woman didn't stop. she moved onto ally, "you too. why are you so drunk? this is disappointing. i expect better from you, al."

then, laurel looked at her daughter, "and when did you leave the house without telling anybody? and what in the world are you wearing?"

"it's taylor's. and why am i the only one who's not allowed to go out?" belly bargained.

"it's not that you're not allowed to go out it's that you should have told us where you were going. that goes for all three of you. how'd you all even get there?"

"we walked."

laurel scoffed, "jesus. you know better than to walk that far along the beach late at night." she dictated.

"can you stop treating me like a kid?" belly yelled.

"if you wanted to be treated like an adult, you need act like one."

"then, maybe you guys should, too." conrad added.

"what does that mean?"

"you guys were here smoking weed. you are like forty. forty year olds don't smoke weed." ally slurred.

"i'm not listening to a word you say when you can't even get them out right." laurel hissed.

"whatever."

"i hope you realize, this night could've ended a lot differently if your family wasn't your family." laurel lectured.

"we're sorry, laur." jere apologized making ally roll her eyes.

such a damn suck up.

laurel sighed, "just go to bed, guys. ally, stay down here."

everyone went to their rooms and ally was forced to stay sitting on the bench.

"ally, what is going on with you?" the older woman asked.

"nothing." she shrugged.

"stop lying. you've been spiraling ever since your mom passed. this isn't how you deal with grief. you don't go out partying getting drunk as a skunk. i thought we signed you up for therapy to help with grief."

"i don't need therapy." she yelled. "i'm fine. why is everyone here so god damn dramatic? i go out and party one night just like the rest of us and i get lectured. you assume everything i do wrong is because of my dead mom. i am fine."

"you are not fine."

"i'm done. i am so done. i can't do this anymore. this is exactly why i didn't want to come here." she argued.

ally walked off and walked up the stairs to her bedroom. the whole conversation had sobered the delgado twin up a little bit. as expected, jeremiah was sitting on her bed waiting for the girl.

"great." she breathed.

"lass, what's going on?" he asked.

"nothing. please leave my room." she requested.

"i'm not going anywhere until you tell me what's going on."

"i can't deal with this right now. i'm going to sleep."

"you've been angry at me ever since the bonfire. you were happy when i asked you to go and now, all of a sudden, you're mad at me." he explained.

"you asked me to go to the bonfire and once i got there, you seemed pretty busy with your new girlfriends, so i made myself busy."

"by getting drunk out of your mind?" jeremiah retorted.

"why do you care now? you didn't have a care in the world for me when you invited me somewhere and then didn't talk to me the entire time." ally seethed.

"because you never told me you were coming! i wasn't going to sit near the entrance waiting for you the entire time." he grumbled.

ally quieted down, "you're right. and i'm not gonna wait for you."

"what?"

"i think you should leave." she instructed.

"what, lass? what did you mean by that?"

"i'm going to sleep. g'night." she pushed the boy out of her room.
