Y/n POV
A few days later: Wednesday
︵‿︵‿٠◦٠♡٠◦٠‿︵‿︵

I skimmed over the lines of the book in my hands, not paying much attention to what it said.

It was a book Dr. Kaedehara had recommended me for anxiety but I didn't care much for it. It was like every other book for anxiety that claimed to have the perfect solution. And of course like every book, it didn't help much.

I groaned as I rolled over on the couch, causing Xiao to look up from his phone.

"What your problem now?"

"I don't want to read thisss its so boringgg!" I whined and close the book, leaving a finger on the page so I wouldn't lose my spot.

Xiao rolled his eyes and looked back to his phone. "You don't even have to read it. It's not like he'd know if you didn't. Just tell him you did."

"But that would be lying! It'd be wrong to lie to your therapist."

Xiao spared me a glance. "You've been lying to him for the past 2 months. Telling him you didn't read a chapter wouldn't make much of a difference."

I sat up straight and glared at him. "I have not been lying to him for 2 months! What're you even talking about?"

My roommate and friend scowled and turned off his phone, giving me his full attention.

"Now you're just playing stupid."

"Am not!"

"Are too."

"About what?!" I looked at him in disbelief for him accusing of such a thing.

"About the real reason you've been so anxious recently." He narrowed his eyes at me. "Just tell him you like him already. It's starting to get tedious dealing with your stupid feelings." My jaw dropped at his callout.

"Xiao we are not high schoolers anymore. I don't like him like him."

"Fine. Want me to use a big girl word if you can comprehend that? Tell him you love him then or some bullshit!"

"I can't do that even if I did love him!" I narrowed my eyes at him.

Xiao scoffed and leaned back in his chair, crossing one leg over the other. "Why not?"

I deadpanned at his naivety. "Aren't you literally a lawyer? And you don't even know the law?"

"I'm not a lawyer, I'm studying to be one. Plus, lawyers don't know the entire state law off the top of their head smart ass." Xiao shot back. The argument had a sense of playfulness but if someone who wasn't a friend saw this, they'd probably think we were having a fallout of some sort.

I rolled my eyes at him and crossed my arms. "California state law says, and I quote, it is illegal for licensed therapists or psychologists to engage in sexual or romantic contact with a client or former client if the therapeutic relationship terminated less than two years prior." I held up a matter-of-fact finger as I spoke out of memory.
