We slowly and silently make our way through the crowded streets with the sun setting.
"All right, new plan." Rick whispered as we stopped in a circle. "Flares from a few guns aren't enough. Too many Walkers, too spread out. We're not going to the armoury. We need our vehicles back at the quarry. All of us drive. We'll need to round 'em up. We leave, we come back."
"Okay." Jessie nods. "But Judith... to the quarry and back, I..."
"I'll take her." Gabriel decided. "Keep her safe in my church until you all lead the Walkers away."
"Can you do this?" Michonne asked him.
"I'm supposed to. I have to. I will." Gabrie said.
Carl nodded carefully handing him Judith. "Shh, shh, shh.""Take Sam." Jessie said.
"No." Sam told her.
"Yes, Sam, it'll be safer." Jessie reasoned.
"I'm not leaving you. Mom, I'm not. I can keep going." Sam firmly said.
"Sam—" Jessie spoke.
"I can keep going." Sam claimed. "Please. Please. Let's just go."
"Okay." Jessie finally agreed
"I'm going to keep her safe." Gabriel assured Rick.
"Thank you." Rick said and Gabriel slowly left.
"Hey. He's gonna make it. Okay?" Jessie told Rick. "I know it."
We all rejoined, Rick then Sam then Jessie after Me, Carl, Ron and last Michonne. Gave Carls hand a squeeze as we walked, he gave me one in return.
It was dark now, we still weren't out. The groans, moans and growling filled my ears I had to focus on moving forward and attempt to ignore my growing fever.
Sam came to a stop refusing to move."Sam? Come on, come on." Jessie desperately tried to pull Sam to move. "Sweetheart? Sam?"
"You can do it." Rick whispered to him.
"Yes, you can. Sam. Sam, come on." Jessie tried.
"Sam, come on. Come on, Sam." Rick tried but the boy wouldn't even respond.
"Sam. Sam?" Jessie spoke.
"Sam... hey, you can do this. Sam, just look at Mom." Ron told his Brother.
"Honey, you can do it. Sam, you're gonna get— Sam, honey, I need you to come with me." Jessie pleaded. Sam started to whimper and cry. "I need you to come with me. I need you to be strong."
The Walkers knew something was wrong.
"Sam—" Ron started but at that moment a Walker grabbed hold of the boy bitting into him."MOM!" Sam screamed in pain as more Walkers joined.
Jessie cried refusing to let go of her Son's hand as she screamed watching him get torn apart."Jessie. Jessie." Rick tried to get her to move.
"Jessie, we have to go. Come out." I try pulling her.
But it was too late, a Walker went over biting her causing more to join.
I desperately tried to pull my hand away but Jessie's grasp was too strong."Carl! Carl!" I called trying to pull my hand away.
"Dad. Dad!" Carl called hoping he could help as Carl tried to pull me away.
Rick raised the axe and with three hits the hand was cut off. Carl and I tumble to the grass. Quickly he helps me up.
We turn around to see Ron holding a gun pointing at Rick. Before he could make his shot a sword came straight through his chest. As his arm fell his fingers pulled the trigger missing Rick. I look to my side but my heart almost stopped, blood dripped down Carl face.
"Dad?" Carl spoke falling down."Carl." Rick gasped rushing over picking up his Son's body.
I wanted to scream but stopped myself, pulling out my machete I run after Rick and Carl as we ran to the doctors I cut down any Walker that came close. The door opened as we walked up.
"Is it a gunshot?" Denise asked as Rick lay Carl down.
"Handgun. Close range." Michonne told her.
"Please save him. Please." Rick cried.
"That's gonna draw them here." Spencer said as the light turned on.
"I need light." Denise told him. "Michonne, towel. Hold it here. Okay, we need to keep pressure on the wound. I'll go in and sew up any lacerations." I throw off my bed sheet. "Just like that, right here. Now, Spencer, I need that pan. That one on the tray. Good. I'm going to clean and close this. Michonne, (Y/n), keep following me with the towels." I listened too everything she said.
"What— what are you doing? Rick!" Michonne shouted as Rick left the building axe in hand. "Rick's out there."
"Hold on." Denise told her."He needs my help." Michonne said.
"Just one more suture." Denise said.
"But he's out there." Michonne worried.
"This is his son. Give me a second." Denise explained.
"He's taking them all on." Aaron said.
"We have to go get him." Spencer said.
"Okay, got it." Denise finished.
Michonne rushed up and ran out with Aron, Spencer and Scott.
I stayed inside not leaving Carls side. I wanted to help outside but I didn't want to leave him.
Fire filled the streets burning the Walkers.——————
The morning revealed the streets to be littered with the bodies of Walkers.
I stepped out when Rick entered allowing him time with Carl.Denise was inside patching up the injured.
I sat against the wall as the pain in my shoulder grew, I've been through this three times and it doesn't hurt any less. The blood was seeping through the bandaged that I put on and stating my shirt but my fever was decreasing.
"Hey, come over here let me look at you." Denise called looking at me after she finished with everyone else.
"No." I say too quickly. "No, I'm fine. Just got a little cut from some glass that's all."
"Well let me clean it up, make sure all the glass is out." Denise told me.
"I told you, I'm fine. I've had two doctors teach me all they could. I know how to look after myself." I tell her.
"Just let me have a quick look." Denise said.
"Fine." I stand up. "But promise me, you won't tell anyone, promise me." I whisper.
"I promise." Denise agreed a little confused by my request.
She pulled my shirt off my shoulder brushing over the coved wound. I wince at the pain. "Sorry." She apologized and carefully unwrapped the bandage. She gasped and stumbled back at the sight of it. "I'm sorry. Your—""I know what it is." I whisper looking at her pulling my shirt up but instantly regretting it when I move my arm and the shirt falls onto the bite pain shot through my body. "Don't tell anyone." I breathe.
"(Y/n)—" She started.
"Don't. I'll be fine, I'll be fine. I don't want anyone to know, not yet." I tell her.
"(Y/n), I can't—" Denise spoke.
"I'm not gonna turn, I'm not gonna die." I sigh and unwrap the bandage around my arm. "The fever will pass and the bite will heal. I will tell the others, just not now. Not with everything."
