"Isn't that the Princess?"

"Yep, it is..."

The two maids looked at you as you drew pictures in your notebook.

You were sitting in a corner, in your dance clothes. Instead of practicing, there you were drawing in your notebook.

At the time, you were still a child. A small child.

The maids continued to whisper to each other as you ignored them. Right now, you felt like you were slowly breaking into small pieces, like a glass vase that has been dropped down a flight of stairs.

Your uncle... he was gone. He promised. He promised that he would see the fireworks this year with you. Just like last year and the year before that.

Now that he was gone, what was the point of putting any effort into anything anymore..?

Your uncle was the one who gently pushed you to work harder. He gave you inspiration and confidence, but that was all suddenly stripped away from you in a matter of seconds.

The maids didn't realize it, but their whispers were so loud and obvious. It was like a bee buzzing in your ear.

You aggressively threw your notebook on your ground and got up.

The maids jumped from your sudden action and looked at you with worry.

"Shut up and get back to work. I'm not deaf, I can hear you, you idiots."

"W-we're sorry, princess!"

The maids immediately bowed and scurried away. You rolled your eyes as you started walking in the direction of your room.

You excelled at everything. Dance, piano, education, violin, everything.

Yet, you still haven't felt complete yet. Like there was something you desperately needed.

You entered your bedroom and slowly shut the door.

You stood by the door for a few minutes. You didn't know why you weren't moving. You just stared at the ground.

One question kept repeating in your head.

'What was it that you really wanted? Or, what you desperately needed..?'

Suddenly, you felt a sharp pain in your chest, as if an arrow had pierced right through it.

Feeling tears coming, you quickly wiped them away and slowly slid down onto the floor.

Your room... it was your safe space. No expectations here or eyes watching your every move.

Even though you could do whatever you want in here, it just felt so quiet and lonely.

Right.. you were alone. Even when you were surrounded by people, they didn't know what you were going through, and even if they did, they didn't care.

The feeling of loss is the worst thing to feel. Maybe even worse than a sharp knife piercing through the abdomen.

You slowly lifted your head and looked at the shelves on your wall. The shelves were decorated with a variety of different dolls.

They were way more expensive than the other ones you usually got. The ones you favorted the most were put on the shelf, and the ones you didn't like were tucked somewhere in a corner.

You got up and walked over to one of them.

Picking it up, you dusted off any dust that was evident on it and stared at it.

If only..

You frowned as you realized what you desperately wanted in that exact moment.

Yes.. That was what you were missing.
