Two halves of a whole (Jay x Briar AU)

Chapter 5

When they got back to camp, Jayfeather could tell both of them had a thought on their minds, Briarlight's was Jayfeather, and Jayfeather's was Briarlight and her safety. The medicine cat felt the waves of not dismay but fear concerning him "What's making you scared Briar?" He asked softly close to her face, she in response started trying to lie and hide her face as she was blushing. 

"N-nothing is, I'm a little tired that's all," she thought she could get away with that. Jayfeather in response, got down onto the floor and carried Briarlight, and to her surprise, he was stronger than she expected, not losing his pace or footing once. "You've been practicing haven't you?" Briarlight asked.

"Well yea, so I can get to camp faster if there is a problem." He answered quickly. She, knowing that he was only telling half of the truth, decides not to push her luck. They entered the camp and Millie came to mother Briarlight and Jayfeather, with annoyance and a bit of anger at how hovering she was, said to her "Look Millie I understand she's your kit but you have 2 other kits that need your attention more than Briarlight." when she didn't move, he said with anger in his voice,

"STOP GETTING IN HER WAY AND MOVE OUT OF MINE," Jayfeather's rage told Millie that he is not dealing with Millie, especially for making Briarlight feel useless. Surprisingly everyone that was around Jayfeather besides Millie just helped Briarlight off and told her that the fresh kill was full, making sure to avoid Jayfeather's anger. 

The silver tabby walked to the Medicine den and checked the neatly arranged herbs "Looks like Briarlight isn't having trouble there" he said to himself, hearing the dragging of the she-cat's body he started to think. Is it possible for her to walk with the help of something? 

Jayfeather went up to the leader's den and decided it was his best chance "Firestar I need to speak to you in private." His leader spoke. "What is it Jayfeather? Is this about Millie? If it is I'll talk to her about it, I understand how annoyed you are when she is around." Firestar said with a calm tone.

 "No, it's not that Firestar, this does involve Briarlight, I am requesting for a small patrol to go with me, I have something I want to check out over at the Twolegplace, I want to see if they can fix her hind legs, it would make her happier to know that she can become a warrior again." Firestar, in thought, said words that annoyed Jayfeather:

 "Okay. But Millie has to know or go with you since she knows the Twolegs more than anyone in the Clan." Jayfeather sighed, rolling his eyes.  "I don't think you understand how much Millie angers me but if it's for Briarlight I'll deal with it." Jayfeather, happy for a change, said reluctantly, then went to Millie and explained what he was planning to do for Briarlight. She also explains that he could also get new eyes to not be blind anymore if he wants. 

"Really?" He asked thinking that this was just something to get his hopes up "Yes but it's up to you, Jayfeather" Millie walks away promising to not tell Briarlight or the rest of her family and Jayfeather goes back to the medicine den trying to hide his excitement from Briarlight. "I can tell you're hiding something but you won't tell me," a voice said. He realized it was Briarlight. "No I don't have anything I'm hiding Briarlight, are you hungry?" He asked, trying to change the subject. "Yea, but I can get—" Jayfeather interrupted her. "No I'll get them this time, you've already done enough and you look tired, what do you want? Mouse, Fletching, Squirrel?" The brown she-cat said to Jayfeather's surprise, "Surprise me, I'm not picky." 

With that, he turned to the pile and grabbed 2 mice and a sparrow the mice for her and the sparrow for him, the other clan cats could see his mood was up which made them think that that wasn't their Jayfeather. He unknowingly collected a crowd around the medicine den while Briarlight looks at the crowd with a bit of fear in her eyes on what could have made them follow him "Jay, you have some visitors." she said with caution, Jayfeather turning around dropped the prey carefully and asked what's wrong "you seem in a better mood, it's strange, did something happen?" Jayfeather, feeling his pelt getting hot said. "It's nothing that'll excite any of you." He said quickly with a bit of hostility in his voice, they backed up not knowing how he would react if they kept pressing him, the only one that dared press this matter was Leafpool. "It's about you and Briar isn't it?" The older she-cat asked.

 "What? No! It's nothing like that" Jayfeather leaned into Leafpool's ear and quietly explained the Briarlight plan and with a look of understanding and shock "She will be so happy and if you decide to go through with that you'll be able to become a warrior like you always wanted!" She said excitedly whispering in his ear Jayfeather nodded and asked her to not tell anyone or just lie. "It wouldn't be my first time..." he responded. Jayfeather I'm proud of you just remember that," she said. Jayfeather unknowingly smiled, thinking about that chance. Maybe I would like that. He thought to himself Maybe I would.
