When I arrived home that evening, completely annoyed, my parents of course grounded me. They told me to 'use the weekend wisely to reflect on my behavior.' Fuck this.

Now I had been lying in my bed for hours, staring at the ceiling, while all my friends were enjoying the summer. I especially missed JJ's presence and his unbelievably good kisses.

Occasionally, I would talk to Sarah on the phone, and she'd give me updates about the search for the gold, which only frustrated me even more. I wanted to help my friends with the search so badly, but if my parents found out, it would be the death of my summer.

With a sigh, I glanced at my dinging phone.

It was Barry.

He asked if I'd be down for stopping by the trailer to hang out, but I quickly let him know that I was stuck at home.

Did you ever let that stop you? he wrote, and I started to smile. He was right. I used to sneak out often back then, so why shouldn't I do it today?

However, I couldn't possibly use my car, and there were quite a few miles to cover until the cut, which I wasn't too keen on walking. But Barry already had a plan to get me to him. And I was more than fine with that.

I quickly put on a comfortable pastel blue mini skirt and a light gray hoodie that was a bit oversized. I tied my hair into a low ponytail, letting a few strands fall around my face. Jewelry was a must, as was some light makeup.

Slowly and cautiously, I opened my door and peeked around the corner into my parents' room. Bingo, the door was closed, so I could quickly escape through the front door.

I sprinted out of the house to the street and looked left and right for Barry, but instead of finding the drug dealer, my gaze fell onto the red motorcycle and its rider.

"What the fuck are you doing here, Rafe?" I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms as he leaned against the bike.

"Heard you need a ride." He shrugged, his gaze fixed on my exposed legs.

"I'd rather walk until both my feet fall off." I replied, starting to walk down the street as the boy got on his bike and drove next to me, going so slow that he was trying his best to not fall over.

"You can't avoid me forever, Jen."

"What if I do?" I abruptly stopped in my tracks, making Rafe hit the breaks and sigh.

"I know you won't.." he mumbled, his eyes immediately finding mine as I turned to face him.

"Oh really?" Raising my brows I looked at him, immediately regretting that I even stopped and talked to him in the first place as his ocean blue eyes starred at me.

I slowly felt myself tensing up as Rafe kept his gaze on me, his blue eyes making me weak while I tried to avert from him but couldn't.

Why was it the way he always looked at me that made me feel so unbelievably attracted to him?

As if it was meant to be, it suddenly thundering, and within seconds, rain poured down as if the angels in heaven were tipping buckets onto us.

"Are you fucking serious?" I looked up at the sky as I got more drenched the longer I stood in my spot.

"Let's go, I'll take you." Rafe was quick to grab a second helmet out of his backpack and offer it to me, but I wasn't gonna give in.

"Um..no. Thanks for the offer though." I gave him a fake smile before I continued walking down the street as I heard the engine start behind me.

"Jen, don't be so fucking stubborn." The boy sighed as he didn't want to budge and leave me alone.

Even when it started to rain harder I wasn't gonna let him win. At this point my hoodie wasn't light grey anymore but rather dark grey.
