They walked through the ruined city for what felt like hours, the city was eerily quiet and made every sound they made sound like a rifle being blasted in a cave.
As they moved further, Opal glanced up seeing a glint of light shining through a window.
She stared wondering if it was the sun's reflection then was being shoved out of the way by Amethyst as a loud "BANG" tore through the thick silence.
The group all scattered for cover breathing heavily.
"D-damn! That was close" Peri muttered "where did it come from" Lapis asked shuttering at the thought of possibly losing another friend, or even herself.
Opal figured it was the glint in the window and quickly expressed this to her friends.
Amethyst on the other hand was in no mood for the sniper and in a flash she was gone only noticed by the others when Pearl squeaked due to the sudden pain in her hand.
And as quickly as she was gone she was back with fresh blood dripping from her fingertips.
"He's gone" she said blankly wiping blood on her pants legs adding to the dried zombie blood and humans from earlier.
We all stood up slowly and Amethyst held a rifle out, here maybe we can use these to see further ahead.
Lapis took the gun and looked to the others who only noded, so she took the gun.
"We should keep moving" Opal said as she stood up and started leading her dwindling friend group through the ruined streets.
Pearl took Amethyst's hand as they walked, the streets were quiet aside from a few zombies roaming the streets.
The zombies were easy enough to avoid as they were slow and far apart so they took out the few they felt were close enough.
And from that point their lives felt like they were on repeat.
Walking.
Killing.
Hiding.
Hunting.
Scavenging.
Sleeping.
Sometimes starving.
They were tired, they all wanted to quit and the longer they walked the more Amethyst didn't care to go to Florida.
They were half way there but Amethyst liked this new found freedom and most of all, her friends and Pearl.
She really liked Pearl.
She wondered if they still wanted her to go to Doctor Sanchez.
Besides, there could be others with an immunity right? Pearl told her in some movies there are groups of immune people or some scientific reason for their immunity.
But what was hers?
None of her powers even slightly related to the zombies like movies and books.
She couldn't control them, talk to them, understand them, and they still tried to bite her all the same.
Amethyst thought it was stupid.
But it didn't matter, since her friends wanted her to get there right?
Well if they didn't why were they still trying?

They sat quietly in the apartment building on the fourth floor in one of the cleanest room they could find.
It wasn't perfect but it was manageable.
Opal slept by the door leaning on the barricade they made.
Lapis was looking over their remaining rations.
Peridot was curled up in a corner just praying she'd fall asleep and wake up in a normal world.
Pearl was sleep on the couch and Amethyst sat quietly next to the couch staring out the window.
She wondered what the world was like before zombies and if that's what things would return to if she went to Doctor Sanchez.
Maybe he could fix all their friends but she remembered Pearl told her that wouldn't happen.
So what's the point?
Amethyst had grown to despise those outside her friend group so why would she care about giving them a cure?
She guessed it was for Pearl.
She was bitten after all and a cure would give her more independence and freedom.
She wanted that for Pearl, then again she didn't want it for others. She hated them. People outside their group only hurt her friends. Like Garnet and back then when they lost Jasper and Bismuth.
It was humans who ran them off the road, humans they were trying to escape. That cost them their lives and in a way, Garner's too.
If they'd been in the truck, Garnet would've never been shot. Bullet proof windows.
Amethyst clenched her fist, the more she thought the more upset it made her.
If she had a cure in her body somewhere, maybe she could find it herself? Make her friends fully immune! What if it even gave them powers-
No that'd be bad, they'd be locked up like her when they got to doctor- but what if they didn't go to the doctor? Then they'd be free!
Untouchable!
She wouldn't have to worry about losing another friend every day, hour, minute, and second.
Not that she minded being the first to walk into an uncleared zombie infested building but that meant Pearl did too and that's what she didn't like.
Amethyst looked back at Pearl.
If she bit her would it transfer the cure like the virus? Or maybe it'd just hurt?
She looked at her hands, she wanted- no she needed to find out exactly what makes her immune.
(Sorry this took a while, military training don't give much free time)
