NOTE: This chapter is Reader X BHC Swapfell Papyrus
The cute jingle of a bell sounded off over your head as you walked into the little coffee shop/bar hybrid. Monsters had some amazing ideas and normally you would say the same for their aesthetics, all dark royal purples and spikes. This cafe though was nothing short of cute and cozy, the dark purples were replaced with lavender tones and white lacey spider webbing, the only thing that even hinted that the small cozy cafe as monster owned was the large black spiders skittering everywhere.
And of course the large spider monster in a deep mauve dress tending to the bar, "Please seat yourselves, a server will be with you momentarily." She called out and you let your date take your hand and lead you to a booth, framed on either side by monsters and humans. He didn't look like his pictures, which yeah...
On one hand you agreed to go on a date with him because he took interest in your hobbies so his appearance shouldn't matter and really you could understand not feeling confident in your body, but on the other hand he wasn't bad looking.
A little heavy-set and maybe he needed to trim his beard, but he wasn't unattractive. His hair was dark and curly, and it looked roguish spilling in small curls over pale skin and blue eyes. He almost looked the way you always imagined black beard would, in those old historical romance novels...yeah definitely not unattractive at all, the opposite actually.
So you weren't sure why the need for the deception...especially when you were going to see him in person and realize that he had obviously photoshopped his jawline and made his patchy beard look fuller.
Swallowing that down for later you smiled at him across the cute pastel booth, as a large tarantula brought menus up over the side of the table.
"That is so neat. Thank you for showing me this place, I didn't even know that there was a cafe like this in town." You say conversationally as you pick up the sleek menu. The menu was black and classy with some small pictures, all of them fitting the cute but macabre vibe of the cafe. There was a mirrored bar across the top of the menus that you noticed reflected everything behind you, so you angled it down, reflecting the ceiling instead.
"Yeah, I'm glad that you like it." He said, blue eyes glancing between you and the spider...that was still waiting by your elbow.
"Umm...is...are you the server?" You asked, feeling unsure. It was a good guess, but there was a chance you were just talking to a normal spider.
Your date laughed, good naturedly...at least you were giving him the benefit of the doubt, since he didn't really help you out any.
"Yeah, ya just give the spider your order then Muffet will bring it out." Another voice drew your attention over the back of the booth your date was sitting in and towards a half turned skeleton monster.
Your date finally stopped laughing at you as you thanked the skeleton, after he turned back around. You hadn't really noticed him sitting behind your date, mainly because you weren't really looking around, but also because his dusty purple hood was pulled up and he was slouched down in his booth.
"I might need a sec to look over the menu." You said, and watched the spider skitter across the table to your date.
"Yeah, I'll need a sec too, but go ahead and take my card so I can open us up a tab." He said, causing you to look up.
"Oh, I can pay for myself this time."
"Nah, I picked the place and it's a little pricey." He said, smirking at you.
"I mean, all the more reason to split it."
"If it's that important to you, I can pay this time and you can pay next time." He offered.
