"As you know, there are two major deities in this world," the Librarian starts with his explanation, "The Lord and The Devil. They rule over the worlds of Heaven and Hell respectively. They constantly have little battles of good and evil, but in actuality they're just the criminal justice system of the multiverse."
"So they decide together who's been bad and who's good?" Serra asks.
"Precisely. However, the deities who hold control over the forces of good and evil are, in actuality, Peace and Chaos," the Librarian continues. "Chaos wants to take over the world, but Peace wants it to continue in its liberation. However, Chaos has a secret weapon, and Peace does not."
"The one who is the cause of it all," Spartan mutters, and the Librarian looks at him questioningly. "You said that. 'Eleven heroes, none the same, will triumph over Chaos in quest for fame, led by the one who is the cause of it all, will together prevent the world's downfall', I believe."
"Ah," the Librarian shrugs. "Anyway, Chaos' secret weapon is known to mortals as the Chaos Equation. This equation requires the worlds to have an overwhelming amount of Peace in them, enough to potentially destroy Chaos. The Chaos Equation automatically triggers a series of events to 'balance' the equation and equalize the amounts of Chaos and Peace in the world.
"However, at this point, Chaos was completely obliterated. Peace ruled over all of the realms, Heaven and Hell as well. To balance the equation, Chaos would need a tool powerful enough to destroy every last trace of intelligent life, and so the Equation produced its spawn, Entropy."
"Why Entropy?" Serra asks. "Isn't Entropy just our conceptual knowledge of the world's slow descent into Chaos?"
"Exactly!" The Librarian reaches into his desk, pulls out a sheet of stickers, pulls out a golden star sticker and gives it to Serra. "A gold star for you. Entropy is the physical manifestation of the slow descent into Chaos. Entropy, thankfully, must remain trapped in the realm of Chaos unless a mortal soul accepts the burden."
"So someone had to agree to be like that? But who would agree to destroy the world?" Serra inquires. "There has to be a loophole."
"And Chaos found it," the Librarian smirks as if he knows something they don't, which he does, "forced reincarnation. Chaos forced someone to enter the body of Entropy. However, he only half succeeded."
"Half?" Spartan asks, confused.
"Half?" Serra echoes, a repetition of the need for explanation.
"Half," the Librarian nods. "He did manage to get the soul to enter the body. But it did not remember its purpose, its past, or its powers." He pauses to appreciate the alliteration.
In this pause, Serra makes an assertion. "So... Entropy is Tomas, right? He doesn't remember he is evil, but he has that dark aura and all that... Is that what you're getting at?"
The Librarian shakes his head. "Led by the one who is the cause of it all... I did say that, right?"
