I lay in my bed and tried to forget what had just happened. My face was still red, not from embarrassment but anger. What kind of person stares at someone like that? And that smile—I felt like punching it off his stupid face. I moved all the boxes to one side and was getting my things ready for a bath when my phone started ringing. I looked at the contact name, sighed, and picked up my phone.
"Hello Mother", I said, placing everything in my hands on my bed.
"I've spoken to the principal and you will be starting school tomorrow, do not get distracted, no friends, no extra-curricular activities, no boys...", she said in that monotone voice of hers that always seemed void of emotion.
"I know, I know, don't worry, I'll get you what you need, as long as you keep your end of the deal"
"Of course, now get some rest, you are going to have a very busy day tomorrow"
"Alright, goodnight, I love...", the beeping sound cut me off and I sighed as I placed the phone on my nightstand. A new school, new life and a new name. Another sigh escaped my lips as I thought about what the next year of my life would look like. It sucks.

I stared at myself in the mirror barely recognizing myself, my dark curls were now straight and very blonde, my freckled face now smooth and flawless, and this uniform...I looked different, good different or bad different, I wasn't sure yet but definitely different.
My phone buzzed, "7:30", interrupting my thoughts. I hurriedly packed my things, looked at my reflection one last time then rushed out of the house. I took a deep breath as I began the walk to school, looking around and taking in my surroundings. Most of the houses on this street were old but looked well kept, beautiful and very expensive.
I got to the gates a few minutes later than I expected and walked in slowly but stopped when I saw the number of people in the courtyard. I took in a deep breath and muttered to myself, "No one's staring at you... It's all in your head", repeatedly, as I made my way through the groups of twos and threes scattered around.
I walked into the school building and with some help, found the principal's office. I walked in and greeted the secretary with a warm smile but she didn't respond.
"What do you want?", she said, not even looking up from her computer
"Uhm, I'm here to see Principal Watson"
"Knock and go in"
I nodded, said a quick thank you and proceeded to knock and enter the office.
"I don't need those files anymore Emma", a lady in a black swivel chair with glasses resting on the bridge of her nose said, while looking down at some pieces of paper in her hands.
'Good morning", I said, shutting the door behind me.
She looked up at me, smiled and took off her glasses. "Chloe, it's a pleasure to meet you, come, have a seat". I sat and she handed me a piece of paper. "This is your schedule, it has your timetable and some other extra-curricular classes you can offer if you are interested. The school's buildings are large and can get confusing so I have gotten you a guide to help you through your first days here at Winston's high"
I smiled and nodded. "Thank you so much ma'am, when will I meet this guide?"
"She should've gotten here by now, I don't know what's...", a girl burst in through the doors and started apologizing.
"I'm so sorry I'm late, it won't happen again I promise", she said as she tried to catch her breath.
"Chloe meet Miley, your guide for the week. You two have most of your classes together so it won't be any problem for her to show you around"
I stood, turned to Miley then back to the Principal. "Thank you for everything ma'am"
She nodded, "My pleasure"
We both walked out of her office and I noticed Miley wasn't wearing the same uniform I was. Well, she was but it was different, instead of the short sleeves, hers were long and so were her socks. She was completely covered up, I wanted to ask why but I didn't want to intrude. 'Maybe it was a religious thing', i thought as i shrugged it off.
"Shall we?", she said, and I nodded. We started walking and she showed me various rooms and what classes were held in them. "Every morning, there's an assembly in the main hall, and all students are required to attend, there are sanctions if you miss it or arrive late"
"Oh", the bell rang and students started to disappear from the hallways. "My first class is PE, what's yours?"
"Math, I'll see you in English later, is that ok?"
I nodded and she did the same before turning around and walking away.
I retraced our steps and soon found the locker rooms. I had forgotten to pack my cute gym clothes so all I had were the white top and shorts handed out in the locker rooms. I quickly put them on and rushed into the open soccer field just behind the school. I made it just in time as the teacher walked in shortly after me.
"Good morning everyone, who's ready for today's lesson?!", she said and everyone responded with the same energy. 'Everyone was so responsive, I liked this class already', I thought with a smile slowly forming on my face.
"Sorry I'm late, I overslept", someone said, as they walked into the field through the entrance behind the bleachers where we sat. My smile disappeared as soon as I saw his face, I take back what I said earlier, I hate this class.
