Oh just passing by, want some coffee? No? Ok then, just scroll down to the story I suppose

---------------------------------------------------------

The shadows were slowly approaching us, making the circle around us smaller and smaller. I felt my heart pounding at my chest, there was no way out, no one could help us, we were alone in a sea of shadows. "I think this is it." "There must be something we can do...whoa..." She said. I looked over to see that she was staring at my hand. It was emitting a bright glow. Then I felt something go through my chest. A ball of light came out. We both stared at it for a while before I grabbed it from the air. "That could be our way out!" Kate hoped. The circle around us had gotten very small, time was running out. "What happens if I do this?" I wondered as I took the ball of light and stretched my arm to the shadows. They instantly slinked away and the small bits that didn't make it were vaporized. "Ok follow me." I went into the shadows, holding the light in front of me like a blind person. After a while of walking, we were still in a sea of shadows. "Where do we go?" I asked Kate. "I don't know, I just broke out of the castle." She said. "How did you know the portal was there, anyway?" I questioned her. "Reasons, now, can we please get away from these shadows?!" She said, annoyed. We kept making our way through the endless crowd of shadows. They were getting more aggressive the longer we took to escape. Dark tentacles were reaching for us. The ball of light disintegrated most of them, until I felt something pull my leg. I fell to the ground. The potions in my belt spilled all over the ground. I quickly held the ball to the tentacle that made me trip. "We could've used those potions." Kate said. "Yeah..." I said as I stood up. I heard some cracking coming from the ground. I looked down to see a small portal that was growing. "How, did that happen?!" I asked. "I guess the potions mixed with Umbra's dark magic" Kate explained. The portal had gotten big enough for one of us to go through. Kate jumped in first, I hesitated a little before jumping through. Various worlds flashed around me before I crashed into the ground. "You okay?" Kate asked me. "Yea." I said. I sat down for a while. Great walls of stone surrounded us, the only way out was a narrow opening that sliced through one of the walls. Many cave entrances poked through the walls. I noticed that I had come from the bottom of one of these walls. Actually, if I looked into the portal, I could only see shadows. "Umm, I think it would be better if we started moving." I said, already standing up. "Yep!" Kate looked at the portal and quickly agreed. We ran to the nearest cave entrance. My ball of light lit up the cave. "Cover that up! Its gonna alert them!" Kate whispered loudly. I put my hands around it, only letting tiny cracks of light slip between my fingers. I peeked over some rocks and saw a team of four shadows. They had just come from the portal. "Who let the prisoner out?" A shadow asked. "I dunno, a traitor maybe." Another shadow responded. "Focus on the mission!" This shadow clearly seemed like the team leader. "Only four of them" Kate said. "Maybe we could ambush them." She thought out loud "We only have to get to the portal though" I said. "Wait what potions do you have left?" Kate asked me. "Let me see-oww" I winced as I felt many needles stab my waist. "Oh yeah, the shards of glass." She realised. "Ok I'll just see what potions you have left." She started inspecting the belts contents. "Okayyyy, we have a smoke bomb, Fire potion, and a regeneration potion. The rest are completely smashed." She listed. "Here you should drink this, It'll take a bit to heal completely but it'll help you" She offered me the regeneration potion. I took it and drank every last drop. It tasted pretty sweet, like candy. "Ok, so I'll throw the smoke bomb over to the shadows and we'll make a run for it. Ok?" She explained her plan. "Ok." I agreed. "3, 2, 1, go!" She threw the bomb at the shadows. "AA-AAAAAAHHH IT BURNS!!!!!!" They screamed. "The acid...got added into the smoke?!" Kate . We sprinted to the portal. I went in first. Gravity threw me down. Flashes of images that didn't make sense started appearing and disappearing. I saw the marble kingdom, shrouded in darkness, as if the shadows had conquered it. Then I saw Jack, Jane and Light on the walls of the outskirts of the kingdom. They were shooting beams of light at an endless wave of shadows. I got thrown around by the constantly changing gravity and crashed on soil. "That was a lot more chaotic than I expected." I said, quickly standing up to avoid Kate squishing me. "Where are we?"She asked when she stood up. "Let's find out." I opened my hand and discovered that the light had turned bright red. "What the...AH!" I yelled. The light burned my hand. I threw it far away. "Are you ok?" Kate asked. "It's just a small burn." I said, trying to cover the fact that it hurt a lot more than a small burn. "Ok, we're in a forest looking area, pretty familiar too..." She noticed. Quick footsteps emerged from somewhere deep in the forest. "Please no, I'm so close, to the-!" Some guy shouted in the distance, "We should probably go check that out." I suggested. "Are you sure? It could be something very dangerous." Kate warned me. "Well its not like we just escaped from a very large army of shadows that could be heading towards us right now." I nodded over to the portal. It looked, different. I couldn't tell why, but something about this felt really off. Like we shouldn't be here. "Its not like we chose to be here, the portal brought us here" I thought, the feeling left me soon after. "Ok, let's go" Kate sighed. We started sneaking our way to where we heard the guy. When we got over there, we saw a cloaked figure. A shadowy stick stuck out of their robes and held a man by the neck. Kate quietly gasped. "Jeremy?!" "You know that guy?!" "Shh, look." She pointed to the ground. My red ball of light was in the middle of all of this. "If this is where I think it is, then we have to go to the city, or actually, my shop!" Kate backed away from the scene and went into the forest. She was pulling my hand as she quickly ran. As we left, I heard a faint voice yelling. We reached the side of a building. We started sneaking to the front of the building. "Ok we have to get in and ou-" She ducked and pulled me down. "Why would you-" Kate put her hand on my mouth and pointed forward. It was Kate, but, she looked...younger? "Oh, I think I know what happened at the portal." The younger Kate ran into the store. Kate looked through the windows of the store. "Ok, I'm gone." She didn't seem too shocked to see herself running into this store. She goes up to the doors and sighs. She opens them slowly then signals me to go inside. Once inside I closed the doors. Lights turned on, "Woah, activated by motion?" I asked. Kate simply nods. I blink a bit and notice a bunch of shelves with many potions stocked in them. "Woahh, you worked here before?" "I owned the place, built it from the ground up." She said proudly. "It was going so well, I was about to expand into the city before..." She said "Before she got into the marble kingdom" I completed the sentence. "Well, anyways, we gotta stock up on some potions. She hopped over a counter, knocking a bag filled with gold coins down. She went through a hallway behind and came back, looking frustrated. "There aren't any potions in the storage area!" She said. "Guess we'll have to take some from your shelves." I ran to the shelves and started taking many potions in my arms. I brought them to the counter. Kate started checking them out. "Ok, fire, acid, night vision, smoke, health, material, truth, ice and fertilizer. where did you grab all of these?" She asked me. "From some shelf." "But I never placed any of these together." "Maybe you just for-" Someone started hitting the doors of the shop. I looked out of a window and saw the same cloaked figure was standing outside the shop, my red ball was in their hand. "Uhhh, Kate? We have a slight problem here." I let Kate know. "What happened now?" She said. "We have an unexpected visit" "Let me see." She looked out the window and quickly jumped back. She rushed to the counter with all the potions. The figure was starting to break the doors open. I went to the doors and struggled to keep them closed. The banging stopped. I got away from the doors. I felt relieved for a moment but quickly realised that I should be on guard. Something broke open in a hallway behind the counter. Kate looked back. A bright red light emerged from the hall. Something shot at her and threw her back into one of those potion stands. I stood there, shocked for a bit, then I ran to the counter with the potions. I grabbed one and a cloaked hand pinned my hand to the counter. I look up and see the cloaked figure, bright orange flames where its eyes would be. "Were you trying to grab that?" It said sarcastically. It gripped my neck and held me on the air. I grabbed my dagger and stabbed it into its arm. The figure hissed and let me go. I hit the ground and quickly got up. I snatched a green potion from the counter. The figure jumped on top of the counter. I jumped back as small tendrils of darkness darted to me. I throw the potion at the figure. Nothing happened to it but it quickly disintegrated the gold from the bag. I go to where the other shelves are and grabbed a brown potion. Looking back I could see Kate was starting to recover. The figure was walking calmly towards me. Kate sees the potion in my hand "Drink it!" She yells at me. I drink the potion, and everything starts moving in slow-motion. The figure was in mid air jumping to where I am. I repositioned it so it jumped into some shelves with many potions. Shortly after that, time started flowing normally. The figure landed on the shelves, completely destroying them and the potions. Kate grabs a red potion and drinks it. She quickly grabbed my dagger from the ground and started slashing at it. The figure quickly turned into a dark smoke and left through a gap below the front doors. It left behind its tattered robes. "We should leave now." Kate grabbed the potions from the counter and gave them to me. I put them in my belt. The regeneration potion had already healed up all of my wounds. Kate opened the doors and left, I followed her. As we started walking through the forest to wherever Kate was going, I couldn't help thinking of that scene I saw back at the portal. Everyone was there, defending the kingdom and then, darkness. Are they already defending? Have they already lost? No, what if what I saw was not what was actually happening? I look up. The sun was rising, and we were in the middle of a road in the forest. "Ha! We've arrived!" Kate celebrates. We made it to some great wooden doors, She pushes a door and it opens up slightly, enough for one of us to fit in at a time. She goes in first and then me. I reached the other side of the gate. I sat down next to the door, I was tired. "What are you waiting for? We have to go." Kate approached me. I stood up and we started heading through the city. Kate turned into a building. I looked up to a sign "Roasty Toasties" It read. Did she go into a restaurant? I followed her inside. I stayed near the entrance while trying to find Kate inside. Wooden floorboards creaked as I stood on top of them. I found her sitting in a table by a window. I sat on the other side of the table and laid my head on the table. My eyelids felt heavier than ever before. Someone tapped my shoulder quickly. "Kyle, we can't stay here. The shadows are coming anytime now!" Kate whispered into my ear loudly. I look up, the restaurant seemed normal. The people here were having a good time talking to each other. "I think it's fine here-" An explosion occurred outside. Everyone got quiet. Kate pushed me up and pulled me to the door. I could hear people screaming outside. A small shadowy hound ran through the restaurant doors, it stayed still for a moment before locking it's head towards me. "Oh, shoot." I said and quickly ran out. The streets were filled with chaos, shadowy beasts had invaded the city. "What are these!" I yelled. These shadows were new, definitely faster than the humanoid shadows I was used to. I tripped on a rock, my dagger slipped out of it's sheath. I quickly grabbed it and swung my arm backward, slicing the dog-shaped shadow in half. The halves tried jumping towards me. "I forgot only light can destroy these things!" I kept running. "Kyle, wait!" I heard Kate call out. I was too scared to stop for only a second. I only stopped when there was a wall blocking me. I finally looked back. All of the buildings seemed small, including the explosions. Eventually, Kate found her way to me. She points to a ladder next to me. I quickly climb it. Once on top of the wall, I take a small step back, horrified. There was a huge shadow army outside the walls. "Well now what are we gonna do?!" A small boy asked another girl, his sister? "We gotta go back with the lady, she'll know what to do!" The girl took the boy's hand and ran off. "So this is what stopped those kids." Kate realized besides me. "What?" "ARTILLERY, FIRE!" Loud thundering shots followed. "This reminds me of that invasion when I arrived to your kingdom."Oh right, that was the first invasion in a couple of years." Kate remembered. I looked up, preparing to help fend off the army of shadows. I saw something in the sky that seemed off. The clouds were moving like crazy. Eventually, the clouds formed words. "PROTECT KATE, AT ALL COSTS" "Whaa-?" The clouds rearranged themselves. "PORTAL APPEARS IN, 29:59" A countdown timer for a portal? I snap back into the action, the shadows have started bashing the wall. "Well, let's get to it then." I said as I tightened my grip on my dagger.
