Jay and Y/n continued their conversations until Graduation, after which they lost contact. Y/n heard rumors that Jay had flown overseas for work. Meanwhile, she remained tethered to her hometown, eventually marrying Heeseung.

Three years later, fate led Y/n to a bar where, to her surprise, she encountered Jay once more. Overwhelmed with joy, she ran toward him, and they embraced tightly, relishing the reunion.

Throughout the night, in the company of Soo-Min and Na-Ri, they delved into countless shared memories and life updates. Y/n refrained from mentioning her marriage, not wanting to dampen the joyful atmosphere. Grateful to have her best friend back, she cherished the moments spent reconnecting after years of separation.

Y/n was engrossed in doing the dishes when Heeseung unexpectedly materialized behind her, his voice sending a jolt through her. "Y/n, I'm not going home tonight," he declared.

Although her heart skipped a beat, she refrained from turning around, knowing that her face would betray the warmth spreading within her. The memory of their recent encounter lingered, leaving her cheeks flushed.

As she heard him exit, Y/n finally turned, her gaze shifting to her phone. Today marked the coffee date with Jay, an event she hadn't divulged to Heeseung.

Not because she anticipated objection, but rather a lack of interest on his part. Quickly ascending the stairs, she felt a mix of excitement and nerves, eager to change into something fitting for this unexpected rendezvous.

Jay sat at the cafe, reminiscing about the countless memories shared with Y/n. Recollections of her playful antics, sneaking up to scare him and surprising him with favorite snacks during moments of annoyance, flooded his mind. He cherished the beautiful simplicity of their friendship.

As Y/n arrived, opening the door with a stunning presence, Jay couldn't believe how she had transformed. She waved, and he stood up, enveloping her in a warm hug before they took their seats across from each other.

"Pssst-what?" she laughed, prompting Jay's candid response, "I don't know, I just missed you." He said.

" Aww.. I missed you too bud "

Her reply stung a bit, referring to him as 'bud.'

"Anyway, what do you like to order?" he inquired. "Umm...let's see," she replied, eyeing the menu.

"Oh! I know, espresso! Right?" Jay suggested, and she chuckled. "You always knew what to order," she remarked, and they shared a laugh before Jay called the waitress.

"So, what have you been doing lately? Aside from what you've said the other night," she inquired. "Oh, nothing much. Just enjoying my vacation, but I'm also working on a project," he shared. "Wow, really? That's great!" she exclaimed, flashing a radiant smile. God, she's so pretty.

"Yah! Don't look at me like that... It's disturbing," he teased, and she scoffed, "What? I'm not doing anything!" feigning offense. Jay couldn't help but laugh, captivated by her adorable reactions.

Jay missed the old times, the easy moments. When Y/n opened up about her marriage, Jay asked gently, "Hey, you didn't mention it at the bar. You have a husband now. How long have you been together?"

Y/n sighed, and her smile faded. "Two years," she replied, her tone less cheerful. Jay, sensing something amiss, questioned, "Is there something wrong? What did he do?"

Shaking her head, Y/n confessed, "We're not like other married couples. It was an arranged marriage."

Jay was shocked. "What? Why would your parents do that to you?" he asked, visibly upset. Y/n's response was a sob, revealing the emotional toll.

"I don't have a choice. My parents insist it's for my future, but I know it's not," she shared, tears welling up.

Jay, feeling her pain, suggested, "Divorce him." Y/n's reply was a heavy truth. "I can't. It's not up to me."

Perplexed, Jay urged, "But you have rights! Why can't you decide?"

Y/n explained, "It's complicated. I want to set him free, but I can't free myself from this. It's hard."

Jay sighed, understanding the complexity. Standing up, he hugged her, expressing, "It's okay. I'm sorry for not listening earlier."

"No, it's okay," she whispered, finding comfort in their shared embrace amid the difficult revelation..

"So... Heeseung... Is he the little boy you used to tell me about?" Jay inquired.

"Yeah... I didn't expect to marry him," Y/n admitted. Jay scoffed, teasing her, "But you wished for it once." Y/n rolled her eyes, "Once! When we were kids!"

After that, both enjoyed their coffee until it was time to head home.

"Want me to drive you home?" Jay suggested. "No, it's okay. I'll just take a cab," she refused. "No, but I insist!" Jay insisted, grabbing her and leading her to his car. She sighed and eventually agreed anyway.

Y/n, now in Jay's car, gazed out of the window as they waited for the stoplight to change. Admiring the beauty of the night, her eyes were drawn to a restaurant filled with customers. Her amazement turned into shock when she saw Heeseung inside, enjoying dinner with a woman.

Observing from a distance, she saw Heeseung's sweet smiles and gestures which she never experienced, her heart shattered.

The woman turned, revealing herself to be Min-Joo, his ex-girlfriend. They stood up, preparing to leave, but Jay's impatient words distracted Y/n.

"What's taking so long?!" he exclaimed, referring to the stoplight. Y/n quickly glanced back, only to witness Heeseung and Min-Joo sharing a kiss.

Frozen at the scene, she started panting heavily, catching Jay's attention. "Hey? You alright?" he asked, concerned. "Yeah... I-I'm fine," she stammered, trying to hold back tears. As the stoplight changed, Jay drove off.

She couldn't believe he would do this. Why? Oh, right, she's just his wife on paper, with no rights.

Really?
