The brotherhood

Macaque was doing his normal morning patrol around the palace, when he heard a commotion two miles out. He turned to look in the direction of the commotion, making his way toward the outer wall of the palace.

He climbed up the wall, looking out over the forest. " Something wrong Macaque?" Someone asked from behind him. He turned and looked down the other side of the wall, the king stood there. " Oh your majesty! Sorry I heard something a few miles out." Macaque said swiftly, bowing his head. " Right." The king said, summoning his cloud and floating up to the top of the wall, standing next to Macaque as he went back to over looking the forest.

" Y'know," The king started. " It could be the brotherhood." Macaque turned to him, skeptical look on his face. " Why would the brotherhood be here of all places?"

" Because I invited them, they wanted to have a chat with me."

"....You are aware that this could be dangerous sir."

" Macaque, I can hold my own."

" But a meeting with men who could wipe an entire heavenly army off the face of the planet is still dangerous, no matter how confident you are about being able to beat them is somewhat nerve racking, sir."

"....."

" Ugh curse your logic Macaque!"

" Hmph."

" I guess, if your really that worried you could come with me to the meeting."

Macaque turned to the king, the morning sky reflecting off his honey colored eyes. " But it isn't my place to interfere with your business, your majesty." He said, flicking his tail. " Mm, well then... Macaque, I order you to come with me to my meeting for my personal protection." The king chuckled, watching some birds flying in the sky.

" Well if it's an order, then it looks like you've forced my hand into place." Macaque joked, drawing his eyes away from the king and back to the forest. The king thought for a moment. " Thank you for accepting to come with me, Macaque." The king smiled.

" Of course."

" Also, no need for formalities in the meeting, so just Wukong will do, alright?"

" Are you sure?"

" The brothers will be addressing me by my name, so you should to."

" Mm, well then."

Wukong turned to look at Macaque, his expression was still soaked with anxiety. " Calm down, I know that this meeting is nerve racking, but you gotta calm down." The king smiled softly.

" It's not about the meeting, it's that fact that you're letting a lowly demon general call you by your name, sir." Macaque said, scratching his neck.

" Lowly demon?! Who's been calling you that?!" The king hissed, suddenly filled by annoyed raged.  " Demons, the monkeys, heaven as well." The general said truthfully.  " Ugh, let me guess, one of the brotherhood members doesn't like you?"

" Peng has a lot of hate for me."

" It's always fucking Peng! I swear nobody likes him, he'll not even I like him."

Macaque chuckled. He handed him a peach with a soft smile. Wukong took it and sat on the edge of the wall, making great small talk with Macaque.  They talked well into the morning.

" I think the brothers are here, peaches." Macaque said, peering down at the gate of the kings palace. Wukong looked down to see, an azure lion, a white bird, an elephant and a huge bull. " Ah, seems they are, come with me will you?"

" Sure."

The two hopped off the wall into the main courtyard, opening the gates to greet the men. " Wukong, nice to see you again, who's this?" The lion spoke. " This is General Macaque, he's my bodyguard, so he's gonna accompany me." Wukong smiled.

" You need a bodyguard?" Peng's twisted laughter rung out behind the lion. " Especially from the lowly Macaque?"

" That's General Macaque to you, Peng." Macaque sighed, he rolled his eyes, his tone laced with malice. " Macaque.." Wukong said in a warning tone. Macaque immediately went quiet, his eyes slowly turning to look at him. " Good, now let's head off to the meeting." Wukong smiled, grabbing Macaque's wrist and leading the group to a large outdoor meeting spot, a table sat in the center of the clearing.

It next to a cliff. Macaque stayed in the tree line, watching from afar. The group chatted with Wukong for a few hours, mainly about him joining them and attack certain places.

" Hey maybe even your little pip-squeak of a guard could join us." Azure commented. Yellow-tusk and DBK were discussing this amongst each other. " Perhaps, he's really good at fighting and such." Wukong said, glancing over at Macaque.

He stared at him with a dead pan face, before turning and walking around the tree line. " Ha! Macaque probably can't even protect himself! It's always have had trouble with that, now matter how good people think they are." Peng scoffed.

Macaque suddenly appeared next to Peng, staring him right in the eyes with a still silence. Shadows clung to his legs as they stretched from the forest, the shadows of the others around him and under the table.

" Macaque.." Wukong's voice was low and threatening. Macaque continued to stare into Peng's eyes, making him shuffle with fear. " Sorry your majesty.." Macaque said, closing his eyes, the shadows returned to their rightful owners as Macaque walked back to the tree line. "Heh, he's got some power." Azure remarked.

"I don't usually get to see him use it much, he's not exactly one to show off for shits and giggles." Wukong said calmly, though, the uncomfortable thought of what he could do danced around in his head. "Hmm, we could really use him, are you sure he won't join?" Azure asked calmly.

"W-well, I mean all ask him to think it over after the meeting." Wukong smiled warmly, a sudden movement coming from the tree line. Wukong turned his head to see Macaque talking to Red and Gibbon.

Macaque was talking in a low voice so he couldn't hear what he was talking about. Macaque nodded and sent the two other generals off. Macaque sat against a tree watching the talking group, more importantly, watching Wukong.

Wukong quickly averted his gaze from him and went back to talking to Azure and Peng.
