(Y/n) Oquendo was born in the Dominican Republic. Her mom, Bridget, is Noah and Kris' mom's sister so she is Puerto Rican. Her dad however, is Dominican so that's why she was born in the Dominican Republic (DR).

She spent the first ten years of her life with her dad's family in the DR and would often visit her moms family in Puerto Rico (PR). Her first language was Spanish and all she knew was the DR and PR. From a young age the girl was in love with her home island, she loved going on little adventures through her town and along the beach.

One summer (Y/n)'s mom approached and told her that they decided to have her live with her tia (aunt) in New York. To say the young girl was heartbroken was an understatement.

(All this is in spanish I just don't want to have to write all this twice)

"Mama do I really have to?" the young (Y/n) asked her mom.

"Yes my love, the island is small and doesn't offer much. If you go stay with your tia and primo (cousin) in the States you can do so much more with your life" Bridget answered.

"But mami, what about you, papa, papa's family, and all my friends? Will I ever see y'all again?"

"Of course you will. You can come back down every summer and Christmas. Me and your tia will work something out I promise."

After lots of tears and long hugs goodbye the girl reluctantly packed her bags (Y/n) and her mom board a plane and leave her home in the Dr. As the plane took off the young girl looked out the window and reflected on everything and all her memories of her home, school, family, and friends.

After the long plane ride and lots of sleep the two Oquendo girls landed and went to her tia's apartment.

Breanna and Noah were not strangers to (Y/n) because of the times they spent together in PR while visiting family, but (Y/n) still felt queasy as she entered the apartment.

(All in spanish again)

"Sister! It's been a while, how are you?" Bridget greeted Breanna, while hugging her.

"Yes it's been some time! I am good, you know, trying to keep safe and healthy. How are you?" Breanna said while hugging her sister back.

"I am good, very tired from the plane though." Bridget responded.

"And how are you, my niece? Also tired?" Breanna asked.

"I am good tia but I'm not tired I slept almost the whole plane ride, besides when they were giving out snacks." (Y/n) chuckled.

As (Y/n) watches her tia and mom catch up she looks around for her primo. Just as she's about to ask where Noah is, he walks down the hall towards the group of girls.

"Hi tia Bridget and (Y/n)!" the young boy said.

"Hi primo!"

"Hi my nephew!"

After greeting his family, the young boy dragged (Y/n) to his room to show her the CD player he had fixed and listen to music.

Bridget stayed in New York with (Y/n) a week to help her get settled, explore Brooklyn a bit, and show her where she'll be going to school when the school year starts. Though even after that week the girl still wasn't really liking New York that much (at all).

(Y/n) knew very little English when she first moved to Brooklyn. That meant she couldn't go anywhere on her own or if she did she couldn't communicate with the other kids her age. This also meant she spent lots of time with her little cousin/translator, Noah and his friends. (Y/n) was older than Noah by two years, so she didn't really want to be around the younger boys. She wanted to be around other girls her age and maybe even boys her age. More than anything she wanted to be back in the DR with her actual friends.
