Oliver

 She kissed me.

Well, on the cheek, anyway. When we got back to the campsite, the first thing I did was go back into the tent to "put my camera away" when what I really did was internally freak out, my fingers brushing the spot where she kissed me. I know, I know, it's stupid, but it really didn't feel that way. I could still feel the brush of her lips against the cut on my cheek. It sent chills all throughout my body when she kissed me, the good kind.

I go back out to the fire pit, where Opal has managed to stop Connor and Elizabeth's activity of choice. She stands at the picnic table, assembling a quesadilla. I walk to the pit, and start the fire.

The sky grows dark, and we eat a dinner of quesadillas and a desert of grilled peaches. We are all talking, laughing and having a good time. I look over to Opal, and she is leaning back, a smile of her face. She looks over to me, and I smile at her from across the fire. She looks down and smiles shyly.

The firelight casts flickering shadow that dance across her face. She looks back up at me again through her eyelashes and I can't help but hope she likes me too. It feels like she does, but then that might be just wishful thinking.

"Hey, Oliver, where did that cut come from?" Connor asks from next to me. I tear my gaze from Opal and look over at him.

"Oh, I'm actually not sure. I think there was a branch hanging down in the path we were walking on. It doesn't hurt too bad, though." From out of the side of my eye, I can see Opal blushing.

"Huh, strange. It must not have hurt very bad, if you didn't notice it when you first got cut." He replies.

"Yeah, I was a little distracted..." I trail off, and there is a light of realization in Connor's eye, and he grins knowingly, but says nothing.

We all decide to retire to our tents for the night. I am about to fall asleep when Elizabeth and Connor come in, talking (among other things). It's really distracting, and I also don't want to be near their love fest, so I grab my blanket and pillow and head over to Opal's tent. Opal is lying on her stomach reading when I come in.

"Hey, Elizabeth and Connor where in my tent and it was really...distracting. Can I crash here tonight?"

"Sure, go ahead." She says with a smile.

I lay down my pillow and settle in, and try to fall asleep, but I can't stop thinking about how Opal is right next to me. I turn on my side, facing her. Her eyes are closed, but she isn't asleep.

"Oliver?"

"Mmm?"

"Why did you come here?"

Because I knew you would be here. I see her open her eyes and look at me. She smiles.

"Really?"

"Did I say that out loud?"

She laughs quietly, nodding.

"Why did you come?"

"I wanted to come because Elizabeth told me Connor invited you along."

We stay quiet for a long time.

"Goodnight, Opal."

"Goodnight, Oliver."
