Oliver
I like her too much. I barely know her.
Connor and Elizabeth hadn't gotten back to the campsite and it was getting pretty late, so we decided to walk up a little trail that led up to a looking point of the valley. The camp ranger said the sunset was beautiful up there. As we were hiking up we traded turns asking questions about each other.
"Favorite color?" I ask.
"Green. All the greens you can see in forests. You?"
"The color of the ocean. Favorite...ice cream flavor?"
"Mmmm...I can't decide, but I like nut flavors like pistachio, salted peanut, and hazelnut. Also chocolaty flavors. What are yours?"
"I like coffee ice cream and sorbets."
We continued like this all the way to the end of the trail. The looking point turned out to be a little deck thingie that protruded over the valley. We walked straight to the edge of the the lookout and set up the picnic and blanket that we packed. The sun was a brilliant red that flashed across Opal's skin and made her so beautiful it almost hurt to look at her. We ate in silence watching the sunset, and by the time we were crunching on apples, a pink and green one for me, and a granny smith for her.
"Hey Opal?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you think. . .Maybe...after this trip, would you maybe want to hangout sometime? Together? I mean, just the two of us, not with Connor and Elizabeth?"
Smooth, real smooth, Oliver.
"Are...you asking me on a...date?"
"Depends..."
"What happens if I say yes?"
"Then it's a date, I guess?"
Opal is silent for a time. A slow smile stretches across her face, until it is a full blown grin of happiness.
"Yeah."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
I can feel a smile matching Opal's stretching across my face. Now we are just both grinning at each other for a long time.
"Want to go up to the edge to watch the end of the sunset?" She whispers.
"Sure" I whisper back.
We go to the edge of the platform and watch the sunset slowly fall lower and lower on the horizon. As the sun goes lower I can feel Opal coming closer to me until we are pressed up next to each other in the corner of the viewpoint. The light grows hazy and the air cools.
When there is only a tiny bit of light left on the horizon, I can feel Opal's head turn towards mine. Her eyes flick back and forth between my mouth and my eyes. I turn my body towards hers and we both lean in towards each other. Her chin tilts up and my eyes close.
Our lips meet and I forget everything else.

Okay well I hope you enjoyed that I sure did. Writing it, I mean. I'll try to update tomorrow but I don't know if that is a realistic expectation.
