Chapter 10

MAVIS

I started running.

Running for my life.

Well, not really, because it was raining. Hard.

Yet I felt weird. My feelings were mixed together; hatred, exciting, sad, confused. I mean, what would you feel when the person you hate the most comes back into your life. You felt being pushed because you're trying to ignore him yet you can't. You wished for a happy, worry-free life but you can't have one.

You wished to like him, but you still can't.

I planned to go to the park where I met Alex. It was far, but I still have to. I need space, space where I could throw my feelings for hours. Space where I can think freely. I wish I brought beer with me.

I started roaming around the park, under the heavy rain. My clothes were soak with water.

"The lake." I mumbled heavily. I started walking again to find the lake. Maybe I could stay there for a while. Or maybe the whole night. I don't want those people looking for me. I don't care if those people are worrying about me.

And maybe, when I get back home, Eleanor is going to kill me. Who in the world who would'nt be worrying if your best friend is lost and nowhere to be found? I even didn't bring my phone. It was useless at this moment.

I sighed heavily as I found the lake. It was still the same. The tallest oak tree where Alex and I sat down was still there.

I walked closer to the tree, my palms touched the rough surface of it as I turned around it. I sat and leaned on the tree peacefully, but the rain continuously pouring down hard droplets.

Do you know the feeling that you have the miserable life? Do you know the feeling of being unlucky? Do you know Jealousy? Jealousy because you can't have a perfect life, even the simplest.

Once, my life seem so perfect in the past. My parents were there, smiling at me as I accomplished pre-school. My brother, playing with me at the park. Yet those happy memories slowly drifted away.

My parents had a problem financially, even emotionally. Dad loss his job one day, when he came home, his face changed into a furious one. His attitude changed into a bad one. He started abusing Mom. Then me.

Mom started getting drunk too, she started being careless one and everyday, you could see she's shattered.

I was is first grade that time. I skipped happily down the street as I went home, because I just got an A+ from my test!

Maybe Dad can be happy for a moment when he see's my test, maybe Mom will be too!

"Mom! Dad! Look! I got A+!" I run into the living room, as I saw Dad smoking. "What do you want now?" Dad angrily mocked.

"Dad look!" I proudly show my test paper to my Dad. He looked at me for a moment. The look that I really hate.

"Dad, you promised that you'll buy me a bike whenever I get this test your waiting for." I begged at him as I remembered his promise.

"You? A Bike?" He mumbled angrily. "Can't you see Mavis? We don't have money to buy your stupid bike!" He shouted at me.

"But Dad--"

"This test paper" He crumbled the paper into a ball. "Isn't a money!" He continued as he throws the paper to my face. "So will you just shut up until we finished this shit problem!" He shouted again.
