Again, these nights. A frigid evening, the rain pelting down hard and banging on windows of every home, the wind constantly swaying the tree branches outside, the sound of thunder frightening everyone, and the flash of lightning illuminating the entire city.
That delighted Mingyu. In fact, the warmth and the background sounds helped him sleep peacefully and comfortably. On his bed, he is currently dozing off peacefully while wearing a blanket over him. A small smile appears on his face as he snores quietly. Additionally, Wonwoo, his roommate and best friend, is lying next to him.
Wonwoo was not having as much joy as Mingyu was. He is terrified of thunderstorms. Since he was a young child, he has been terrified of thunderstorms. Has he told Mingyu? Of course not; he was worried Mingyu may think he was strange and weak. He has trust in Mingyu; he only wanted him to believe he was brave. There is undoubtedly a significant condition to that, though.
Wonwoo is now terrified—if he were being completely honest, terrified to death. His want to simply vanish grows stronger each time he hears the outside thunderclap. Knowing that he had to keep this anxiety from his best friend, who was only centimetres away, was difficult for him. He's trembling and doing his best not to burst into loud, uncontrollable sobs. Tears are slowly gathering in the corners of his eyes.
If the taller turned to look at the older, it would only appear that he was dozing off because they were facing one other's backs. Wonwoo merely wished for the storm to abate, but it continued to rage. The tears gave up and fell to his cheeks as he muttered quietly. He closed his eyes and unintentionally let out a stifled sob. He silently prayed the storm to end hoping that it would.
Mingyu eventually became aware of his surroundings after feeling something shaking beside him and hearing some murmuring. He turned to face Wonwoo while shifting on the bed and expressing confusion. He was trembling. Mingyu asked softly, "Won?" His voice was raspy from only having recently woken up. Wonwoo's eyes widened as he immediately wiped away his tears to avoid making them visible.
The younger asked, "Are you okay?" The older one lied, saying, "Of course I am. Go back to sleep." Of course he wasn't, but he wasn't going to tell Mingyu that. Though Mingyu knew Wonwoo was lying, he didn't believe him. The younger can hear him trembling when he spoke despite the loud storm outside. With the aid of the light from outside, he got up to see Wonwoo's face, which was drenched in tears.
The younger said, "You aren't. You're crying, what's going on?" with obvious alarm in his voice. Wonwoo didn't know what to say: "I-"
Bang.
Wonwoo was cut short by the incredibly loud thunder, which reverberated throughout the entire city and caused him to flinch in his spot and hug his best friend. He reached the breaking point. He sobbed and burst into tears while clinging to Mingyu as though he never wanted him to go.
As soon as Mingyu realised what was happening, he promptly soothed Wonwoo by embracing him in his arms. Wonwoo was crying out in increasingly aggressive sobs. 'I never realised he was afraid of the storm', Mingyu thought. He felt like a failure because his longtime best friend had struggled with this and he hadn't been there to console him. But he is here to help and comfort Wonwoo.
The younger tried to soothe the older. "Won, you're okay. I'm here, it's alright." His hand slid under Wonwoo's shirt, and he gently stroked Wonwoo's back while speaking calming phrases into the shorter's ear in an effort to relax him. While sobbing there, Wonwoo's arms rose to wrap it around Mingyu's neck.
The younger let him. He took his hand off the older's back to play with his hair. He knew that this would help to calm Wonwoo down. Eventually, the thunder and lightning subsided, and the storm was reduced to soft raindrops. It was serene, exactly like Wonwoo was. He had slept in Mingyu's chest both as a result of the taller holding him as he sobbed a lot.
While laying Wonwoo down, Mingyu wiped away any remaining tears from his face. He continued to play with his hair while keeping his gaze fixed on Wonwoo. Mingyu whispered, "Sleep well, Won. Let's talk about this tomorrow.... I love you". After giving Wonwoo a forehead kiss, he laid back down on the bed. He held him so that in the circumstance that the storm returned, Wonwoo would know someone was there to protect him.
Touch you softly, I call you up late at night
