Deep breaths, deep breaths.

It hurts a lot, but it'll be fine.

It's always fine.

Right...?

Just cover it up and you won't die.

Simple as that.

Keep moving, keep moving.

Ow...!

Come on you can do this.

Deep breaths, deep breaths.

Block it out like you always do.

Deep breaths, deep breaths.

The pain will stop you know this.

This isn't the first time.

Just...

don't...

stop...

moving...

Shelby woke up with a yawn.

The skulk had spread to where she had been sleeping overnight, and she was glad none of the infected had come with it.

It had been ten years since it had come.

Spreading its skulky tendrils all over this world like a disease.

Shelby had been walking home from her alchemy class when it had started.

One moment she had been wondering what her brother had gotten himself into.

The next her own teacher was dragging her back to the school, and shoving her in their classroom with the other students.

"Alright darlings I'm gonna go outside and deal with what is happening. Don't leave here, Mr. Major and Ms. Zside I'm looking at you" their teacher had whispered.

Shelby had curled up in a ball wondering what was happening.

Of course now she knew that their teacher was dead, and that skulk had killed them.

The memory of their teacher screaming still haunted her dreams to this day, even though it had only been ten-years-ago.

Shelby moved carefully through the skulk. Making sure to only step on the small grass patches that were dotted all around.

She didn't need any infected going to her exact location first thing in the fucking morning!

Even though that wouldn't really be a problem for her.

There were footsteps to her right, and Shelby readied the scythe that she had stolen from one of the classes at her old school when the breakout had started.

An infected slowly crept over to her.

Their eyes had been completely covered by the skulk, making them blind.

Their arms were outstretched with small tentacle vines weaving around their fingertips in an almost beautiful fashion.

They weren't hostile yet, only curious as to the soft little footsteps Shelby had been making.

Shelby held her breath hoping that the infected would just turn around or miss her completely.

Instead an arrow shot through the head of the infected.
