"Your opponents will be Snipe, Midnight, Nedzu, and Cementoss." Aizawa read out the names blandly, glaring at the pair stood in front of him.
"Nice to meet ya!" Nedzu waved, and the other three nodded and grinned.
"Alrighty~! Do we get a character profile or something?" Dazai looked over at the row of teachers.
"Heroes never know who they'll be fighting. Get used to it."
"Hmm~" Dazai eyed the four, a playful glint in his eyes. Beside him, Chuuya sighed.
"Isn't four people too much? We're just a pair. I heard that the final exams for the students was a pair versus one hero."
Aizawa scowled. "I have faith in your ability." His voice was drier than a desert at noon.
Chuuya rolled his eyes. Like hell you do. "So, when are we starting?"
"Right, before we do, take this sticker and put them on your chest." He handed them each a circular black sticker, a small lump protruding from the center. "It's a tracker and a monitor. We have to supervise you guys in case of an emergency, and just for grading reference as well."
"...okay." Chuuya frowned a bit, sticking it on his shirt. Dazai did the same.
"Alright, now that's all sorted." Aizawa nodded to a tall bus stood beside him. "Ride this bus, it's programmed to take you to the testing site."
"Sure." The pair boarded, Dazai humming uncaringly. Chuuya, on the other hand, frustratedly watched the setting sun from the window. He spied the four heroes chatting to one another as they also boarded a bus. God, this is gonna suck. Let's get this over with.
After a shaky bus ride, they got off at what seemed to be a walled off area in the middle of nowhere. Outside the large concrete walls was forest for miles, yet within them was a vast, expansive mini-city. There was nobody inhabiting it, but it was built with the cars, signs, and furnishing; it looked as though all the people had simply up and vanished.
Dazai whistled. "What a budget this school has."
Chuuya nodded in agreement. "Damn. And I thought the Port Mafia had money to burn."
The intercom buzzed.
" This is the practical portion of the exam for Nakahara Chuuya and Dazai Osamu. Your objective for the exam is to either escape through the exit door at the other side of the arena or to capture all of your opponents with the given capture tools. Your time limit is one hour. Failure to complete one of these objectives within the time limit will result in automatic termination of the application. " The intercom paused. " Please stand by for a moment. "
A few minutes passed. Chuuya fidgeted, playing with the plastic yellow handcuffs they were given as so-called "capture tools."
After a small wait, the intercom sounded again.
" The exam will commence. 3, 2, 1... "
The bell rang out, and Chuuya began running forward, Dazai following close behind. In the blink of an eye, the ground began to warp and crack like putty. Huge cement columns and blocks rose from the floor, and they obstructed the pair's path.
Chuuya activated his ability, a scarlet glow emanating from his figure. He leapt up, vaulting over the columns in a swift movement. Chuuya kept running, springing from the tops of every concrete block that met him. Under his feet, the stone crumbled, pushing his body higher and higher. Dazai followed his partner from the ground, dodging the falling fragments of rock.
"Chuuya!"
"I know!"
From between the columns, a pink fog was approaching. Chuuya paused, and turned around. As he glanced towards his partner, a concrete dome enclosed Dazai's figure.
