I dropped the huge fur jacket on the couch, stretching my arms in its direction without taking my eyes off the midfielder, who was looking at me from the hallway, not daring to enter fully. Now, only in my dress, I retraced my steps.

"Do you want something to drink?"

"Water."

I nodded at her request and walked to the kitchen cabinets, grabbing a glass from one of the higher shelves. Then I looked for water in the fridge and poured some into the glass. I tried not to think, not to notice if she was watching me. I closed the refrigerator door again. The continuous hum of the appliances drowned out the faint sound of passing cars. Alexia was still observing me, still in silence, still with a silly smile plastered on her face. As if she no longer had any hurry, as if suddenly she had all the time in the world.

It was becoming difficult to hold myself back. She was stunning. Her eyes sparkled, her smile seemed divine, like that of a goddess captured in an oil painting. Every inch of my skin yearned for her. I had too many doubts. So close, yet so far.

Fuck it.

I carefully placed the glass on the kitchen countertop. I was three steps away from her. Less than a second to make a decision, and it had to be the right one.

I wrapped my arms around her neck and touched my nose to hers. I savored the moment. Her hands gripped my waist. I took a deep breath, feeling the air between us absorb the energy of the heat, decreasing its density and rising up to my nose so that I could breathe it in, filling my lungs with the last few seconds of distance my body would have from hers. A farewell to space, to the moment.

"You could have ended doing whatever you wanted of me," I whispered against her mouth, drawing even closer. Alexia's lips parted, exhaling against mine.

"I think I've lost my free will."

Gently, her lips met mine, avoiding a collision, coming together in such an organic, perfect way that for a second, I struggled to remember that they had once been separate. I cursed for denying myself this for so many weeks, not just the taste of her lips, the softness of her hair tangled between my fingers, or the firmness of her hands pulling my body closer to hers, dissolving any remaining distance, any air, that could be between us. But also the leap, the ecstasy, the pleasure of feeling, of heavy breathing, of blood rushing quickly through every vein and artery in my body, heating up every part of me, exhilarating in response to her touch.

I lowered my hands to her face, allowing myself the freedom to guide the movement of her neck, the speed of our kiss, making it long, torturous, deep, trying to memorize every detail of experiencing her mouth, which I knew had slipped away from me completely when I finally released them and opened my eyes, meeting hers, and my mind went blank, having forgotten everything. Needing to remember it again. As many times as necessary, until I could remember it whenever needed.
