Chapter 3: Negotiating

Adelaide’s POV

It’s kinda bothersome that ‘I’, an intruder, is using someone else’s body just to achieve my personal greed, however…I’m not planning to stop.

“What trick are you trying to pull off this time?” He coldly said which received a humorous laugh from me.

Him, raising his guards up against me is so cute.

Actually, I’m quite even surprised by my own actions. Never did I do this kind of thing in my past life, not even when I was dealing with serious and critical issues with other nations and kingdoms.

Only with him.

Especially those eyes…those eyes are the reason why there’s something within me woke up which supposed to be long in slumbered.

Those disgusting emotions,

Greediness and Selfishness.

The things that mostly the reason behind a person’s downfall.

But despite being aware of it…why am I still willing to risk? Am I that desperate? To approach a man herself and even make the first move.

No…it’s not because of willing to risk, but the outcome.

I know that the outcome of this will definitely be fruitful. Just like always did.

“Do you know that you’re very amusing right now? My dear husband.” I said as I traced my finger on his jaw line up to his lips.

I am towering over him with my left hand on the top rail of his chair to serve as a support while I’m leaning my body closer to him.

He still had those stoic expressions that made me even more eager to snap that expression.

I want him to beg, to drive him crazy and be completely nuts.

Am I a bad person if I want that?

“What is it this time, Adelaide?” I stopped tracing his face when I heard him say that name.

It’s a pity that he can’t call me with my ‘original’ name, but I must admit that he sounds so sexy when calling this original owner’s name.

“…Not only adorable, but also sexy. I like it.” I unconsciously said. Then when I closely look at his face, I can somehow see a small frown which brings my lips to stretch upward a little.

“This might be the cause of your fever, why don’t you rest for now? Let’s talk when you—” I interrupted him on what is he saying by putting my finger on his lips, sign to be quiet.

“Look at me…do I look like I’m not in a right state of mind?” This man must be thinking that I’m just fooling around. I hate that, I hate it if someone don’t take me seriously.

Unlike with my playful smile earlier, I’m now looking at him with my cold stare.

Then I pushed myself up and stand straight while looking down at him. With my head held high, I state my purpose to him.

“Let’s be clear…all I want is a child.” I sternly said without breaking my contact with him. Therefore, I saw how a deep frown slowly emerged on his face.

“Is this your new trick? To use a child just to claim the throne?” I didn’t answer him right away. It’s not because he’s right, I stopped because I remember this body’s past.

Where-in she tried so hard just to prove that she is worthy of the throne. Though her methods sucks if I may say. That’s why I also couldn’t blame her father for saying those hurtful words to her.

She definitely isn’t suitable for reigning a kingdom…much more, an Empire.

That’s why maybe this is also what’s going on inside his head. He might be thinking that since ‘I’ couldn’t claim the throne myself, I will use my child instead.

A dry smirk emerge on my lips as I thought of it. I’m not stooping so low just to achieve what I want.

In fact, if he continues to be hard headed, I can still find a way to conceive even without him. Of course, after being divorced. Even it means that ‘I’ will give up the throne. Moreover, it’s not like I am a power hungry type of person…well maybe before, but I already had enough of it on my past life. Now, all I want is just to live a quite life while solving this mystery behind my reincarnation, that’s it!

I only do this in respect since he’s ‘still’ my husband and that this is more easier compared to going through a divorce. And cheating? It’s a big no no, as an imperial on my past life, we were thought to be faithful to our partner and I agree to that kind of teaching.

Those people who tolerate cheating are lowly people. Tsk, if they really like another person, then they must divorce, as simple as that.

“…Seeing that you remained silent, I must be correct.” I came back to reality after I heard what he said. But then, I dryly laugh at him while I roughly comb my hair backwards.

I know that he’s just being suspicious. Even I would be suspicious if I were on his place, but that thought of his must be stopped, “I think there’s some kind of misunderstanding here…”

“So I will let myself clear, my dear ‘husband’.” I walk towards him and raise his chin up, so that he can see how serious I am in this situation.

“Firstly, I will not step so low to the point of using a ‘child’ just to achieve ‘my’ greed. Secondly, if I really wanted the throne, I would not use that method. Heck! Only an idiot will do that stuff where they will wait for many years just to achieve their goal,” My nails start to dig on his chin but not even a single flinch can be seen on him.

“…and I’m an impatient kind person. I always want to get what I want right away. Isn’t that why I’m negotiating with you right now?”

“You can claim the throne by becoming an imperial and even have an heir if you cooperate with me.” I added.

“…Then why do you want a child?” I didn’t immediately reply to his question, instead, I turn my back on him and walk towards the bed.

While touching the smooth texture of it, I raised my head and looked at him, “That would be my personal reason.” I said to immediately stop him from further asking.

As I cross my legs, I rest my hands on my lap elegantly before saying, “Now…let’s clear some things out, shall we?” After I said those words, I saw Alistair stand up and walk in my direction.

“From now on, let’s mind our own business. I will not probe into your matters, the same goes for you.” Before, he’s the one who’s looking up, but now…well, it’s the opposite. But I still make sure to let him know that I’m not intimidated by his presence by looking straight in his eyes.

“So it’s pure business huh? Then are personal feelings not allowed?” This time, he’s the one who’s raising my chin. This guy really loves to copy what I did to him earlier.

But remembering his question, a playful smirk appears on my lips, “Why? Can you make sure that you will stick to what you are right now if ever we won’t allow our own personal feelings involve?” I ask, challenging him.

Then my smirk became even wider after he remained silent. Of course I know that he knew…that staying together for a long time will definitely change our treatment towards one another. And there’s only two paths on which where it will be directed…it’s either on a positive side or a negative side.

Either it will be the cause of our destruction…or for the better.

“Then I guess we will leave that aside, right?” I said smiling sweetly at him.

“You…” from my chin, his hand came up from my cheek before putting some strands of my hair at the back of my ear.

“Are quite unusual today.” My smile deepened because of his answer.

“How so?” I ask as I lean my head on his palm that is right at my cheek.

“I don’t know…” I start to make myself comfortable on his touch when he suddenly said something that make me stop.

“However…your eyes, they’re much darker than before,”

“I wonder…”

“…What’s the reason behind that?”

A/N: Hellooooo~, it's been quite a while right? I'm really sorry about the delay. I was supposed to upload this chapter yesterday but coincidentally, it's the first day of my period, so it really hurt like a b*tch! And I am not exaggerating, really.
