A thousand years later, Alice lived up to her namesake by forging an alliance with witches. None of us were happy about it. The Hunt's decided they would become the Supernatural Police. Blake, my husband, decided it would be best if he helped them. I didn't mind. He was good at it and hunting was in his veins. Mia and Stephen are married too. Alice is disgusted with marriage and says she'll never marry. I just told her she hadn't found the right guy yet.
Blake and I finally got our own house too. I was making dinner when he came home. "Hey, how was work?" I asked.
He sat at the table. "Fine. We caught six witches and two vamps."
"Hmm. I don't the witches like the alliance."
"Neither do we but they agreed to it."
I smiled. "Alice is very convincing."
He smiled too. "She is."
"Though I still think she'll marry when she finds the right guy."
"Do you ever think that she might like girls?" Blake asked.
I frowned. "I haven't but I suppose that's a possibility." Maybe I should have thought of it because she is my sister.
"One of them. Another is that she's seen all of us marry and she just doesn't believe it's worth it."
I laid the food out and sat. "She thinks it's disgusting." I filled my plate.
He started filling his. "I used to think that until I found you."
I took a bite. "That's why I said she just hasn't found the right person."
He smiled. "You said 'guy' but changed it to 'person' because of my suggestion."
"So?"
He shoved a spoonful into his mouth and shrugged. "Just making an observation."
I snorted. "No, you were pointing something out. What is it?"
He sighed. "I'm just surprised you didn't think of it."
I winced. "I should have but you're right. It hadn't even crossed my mind."
"It's fine. It hadn't crossed my mind until I saw two females kissing."
I rolled my eyes. "Was it someone you caught?" Maybe a couple of the witches or maybe the two vamps?
"No, they were kissing and my suspect was watching."
"That's just wrong." No one should be stared at while they are kissing. I wonder if the suspect was planning to kill them or just saw them and decided to watch.
"Actually, it just made it easier to catch her."
"Your suspect was a girl?"
"Yes."
"Maybe she was a lesbian too."
"Maybe."
"What did she do?"
"Beat the hell out of Kale."
"He deserves it," I muttered. Kale's punishment for killing Alice Hunt had been him being grounded for a week.
Blake smiled a little. "He did and more but I couldn't let her get away."
"Why?"
"Because Helen was with me."
That told me he would have let the girl go if Helen hadn't been there. "That sucks."
"It does."
"Helen loves Kale but she still refuses to marry him," I grumbled. Helen and I became friends after we discussed what happened.
"Maybe because he's literally still an idiot."
"You mean he was always like that?"
He chuckled. "Yeah, but she still loves him, right?"
I smiled. "Yes. She even once told me that they kissed and he said it was an accident." I remember that conversation vividly because she was so mad.
Blake winced. "What did she do in retaliation?"
I laughed. "Oh, she ignored him for a week."
"Only a week?"
"Yes. She said she couldn't keep herself away any longer than that."
"Now that's just sad."
"No, that's love."
He snorted. "That's how you see it."
"That's how it is," I said glaring.
"Alright, I surrender."
He hated making me mad. "If I was in her position I would have done the same," I growled.
"Probably. When did you and Helen become such good friends?"
I shrugged. "After I told her the truth."
"She had tried to kill you," he growled.
"I know but we cleared that up."
"I'm not sure I can trust her."
"Blake, she had purposely missed my heart."
"That means nothing. She wasn't going to kill my pet."
"She told me she had been about to when you threw her off." It hadn't mattered that Blake had 'owned' me back then. She was going to kill me but couldn't because Blake had chucked her. Now she's glad he did. She enjoys being friends with me and I enjoy being friends with her. Though I still think she should make up her mind about Kale.
He sighed. "Are you sure she's telling you the truth?"
"Yes. I can tell when people lie to me."
"So can I. It's just hard when I can remember that day so clearly."
"That's part of being a vampire. Besides, that was a thousand years ago. She's a better person now than she was back then."
"I know. She actually delayed us on capturing our target."
"She probably had thought he deserved the beating."
"Probably."
I picked up our plates and started doing the dishes. "She'll probably tell me about it later."
"He stood. "Maybe. I'll meet you upstairs. He kissed me and went to our room.
I smiled because I knew he had gone to bed because he didn't want to talk anymore. "Coward," I murmured. I heard a thump and snicker. He had heard me. I put the dishes away and made his lunch. It consisted of a sandwich, water, a banana, an apple, and a bag of blood. What? The blood is for if he loses any and needs some more. Then I made my lunch which was just a sandwich, an apple, and a bag of blood. Oh, I forgot to tell you where I work. I work at a hospital. So far they give me the most injured patients. I admit to biting them to heal them so many people are alive because of me now. It makes me happy to be able to help people who need it.
I went to our room and we wrapped me in a hug from behind. "I'm not a coward," he murmured. "I had a long day. I'm tired."
I grinned. "You came up here because you were done with the discussion."
"That too." He got into bed and I lay beside him.
"Goodnight," I said.
He yawned. "Night."
We fell asleep. Me in his arms thinking that life was better when you had someone to live it with.
