Hyein's pov

I was in the middle of reviewing my notes because of our exam later. Ador University has already announced the schedules of our exams.

While reading my notes, Hanni suddely came to my mind. I miss my best friend so much. I stopped reading when I saw my wall paper on my phone lock screen. It's me and Hanni. I suspired heavily and reached my phone on the table to check my friends messages but it seems like they are busy too.

My Girls🤍

Me : Can we visit Hanni?

Haerin : I'm busy right now, we have exam later right?

Yujin : we can visit her later after class or maybe in lunch time, I miss her too.

Chaewon : I might not be able to go with you later, I'll be busy because of exam.

Yunjin : Me too, seriously. I'm already running out of time.

Me : hmm, okay. I'll just visit her right now because I've got nothing in my brain while reviewing, so instead of wasting my time, I'll just visit Hanni.

Haerin : okay, take care and still don't forget to review.

Me : Right haha, good day. I guess?

I put my phone where it was earlier and got up to prefer.

I got out of my car when I saw Hanni's mother in the parking lot of the hospital. I was about to go where she was, but to my surprise, someone pulled her into a kiss. I thought it was Uncle, but no. I turned around and immediately left to enter the hospital.

As I entered, I saw Uncle leaning back on the sofa. I suddenly remembered what I just saw few minutes ago.

"Oh, Hyein, are you alone? Where are your other friends?" He looks behind me to check if I'm with my friends

"They are busy because of our upcoming exam, Uncle." I sat on the bed where Hanni was lying.

"Hanni? How are you? I miss you so much", I hugged her as my tears started to fall down my face. It's been a week since Hanni got into a car accident. The police are still investigating it; they still haven't found out who did this to Hanni. I let go of the hug and wiped my tears.

Hanni looks pale already. I wanted to stay here to take care of her, but I still have classes to attend.

"Hyein?" Someone called my name. It's Hanni's mother. Oh, speaking of the name of the devil, she's a cheater.

"Auntie" I stood up when I saw her. She was about to hug me, but her phone suddenly rang.

"Oh, I'll just answer this" She left us.

"Uncle, Can we talk?" I asked. Uncle needs to know about his wife's shits.

"Sure, what is it Hyein?" I was about to speak but the door suddenly opened.

"Honey, We need to go. Your secretary is calling you but you didn't answer their calls. You have a business meeting right?" Goodness. Until now, they still cared more about business than their own daughter.

"I know, but I told my secretary to cancel all my appointments because I want to look after my daughter." I love how uncle really meant what he said, that he wanted to make up for neglecting his child by taking care of Hanni.

"But honey, It's an important meeting, and Hyein's here to stay and to take care of our daughter." Wow, I can't believe this.

"Uh, Auntie, I still have class to attend; I just visited Hanni because it's been a week since I last visited her." I elucidated in a polite tone even though I already wanted to vomit, remembering how gross auntie's wrongdoing was.

I can't believe what I just heard earlier. I was in the comfort room washing my hands, but when I heard Hanni's parents, I quickly ran inside the lavatory. I carefully listened to their conversion. I heard my Uncle say:

"I'll never stop blaming you for what happened to my daughter. You're so cruel and shameless."

"I was about to scold you in front of Hanni's friend, to tell them the truth that you're just her miserable stepmother who forced me to marry herself after spreading lies in public, to my family and her own family." Every word he uttered was emphatic. I'm still dumbstruck by what I witnessed.

"That's why she's acting like a bitch because Hanni isn't her daughter?" I clenched my teeth while tightly holding the steering wheel of my car.

I drove away to school; my friends need to know about this. I hope Hanni won't forgive her stepmother when she finds out about her shit.

Haerin's pov

Me and my friends were eating silently at Starbucks. I can see from their eyes and expression that they're tired. The first day of the exam just ended today. I looked at them one by one, but I noticed Hyein; she looks like she is ruminating.

I nudged Yujin using my left elbow; she's sitting next to me while using her phone.
She looks at me, dismayed, as I point my mouth to Hyein, who's still ruminating.

"Hyein? Are you fine? You're in deep thoughts," Yujin said, looking at Hyein and raising both of her eyebrows. Yujin's question made my friends glance at Hyein.

Hyein looked at us wide-eyed. She took a deep breath before speaking.

"I... I don't know how I will explain it to you guys; it's just..." she sighed heavily.

"It's just that I can't believe all of it." Now I know something really happened in the hospital.

"What happened? You know, if you can't tell it to us, we can wait until you're finally fine," said Chaewon as she leaned her back to the chair where we were sitting while crossing her arms.

"No, you need to know about it because it's about Hanni's situation." I knew it.

"Uh, Hanni's mother is not her real mother; she's just Hanni's stepmother." We frowned while looking at each other.

"I knew it. Since the beginning, she never treated Hanni as her daughter," I said.

"Not only that, I saw Auntie with someone in the parking lot; that guy pulled her into a kiss." I was horrified after hearing those from Hyein. I can't believe she cheated on Uncle. Uncle already has it all, but who's the guy?

I know that Hanni's stepmother just married Uncle because of money. I hope Hanni will recover now; she deserves to know that behind the mask of Auntie, she has a big, dark secret.
